China?

So...FI and I ended up registering for everyday china at BB&B.  (China, but is dishwasher safe and more meant for everyday than special occassions).  We were lucky enough to have 2 showers, but we didn't receive any of it.

Just curious if anyone else who registered for china actually got any?  I'm not complaining or anything because we got a lot of really nice gifts, it's just kind of a bummer because the 2 things we DESPERATELY need are dishes & flatware, which are some of the only things left on our registry.  Just wondering if anyone got any of their china!

Re: China?

  • We didn't really get any of our dishes.  We registered for 4 sets of every china (same deal as yours), and 4 sets of fiestaware that matched the china set.  Between two showers, I only got one set of fiestaware.  Our BBB registry says that one set of our china has been bought (for a while now), but I guess the gifter is holding it until our wedding.  I have a feeling it's from my coworker, because she's the one who bought us the one set of dishes, lol
  • we have got 3 places settings of the nicer "everyday china" as you call it from BBB...we were hoping for 8 because we got corelle dishes for every day use, and 3 settings doesnt do us much good of fancy dishes since I only wanted them for when people come over. None others have been bought off the registry either, so im hoping we get some gift cards to get the rest, because its more then I would want to pay, but I do really want them!

  • We got all all the china (every day plates/bowls) that match our existing china. But we did not get the flatware. Someone (I think my mom) purchased the flatware back in December! I have a feeling they're holding onto it for the wedding. Why, I don't know. I'm not complaining either, but I would rather have had it at the shower cos if we get it at the wedding, that's something else to fit in the car. But...whatever.
  • We didn't do China but we did ask for a nice everyday set that we go all the settings! :)

  • We got all of our everyday china for my bridal shower. My mom's friends bought all the bowls, cups, serving dishes, butter dish, etc. My mom bought (literally) all 10 place sets. I told her she didn't have to, it was rediculous, and Thank You (a million times)!

We haven't had a single piece of flatware or our fin china bought. I told FI that we will see what happens at the wedding. I know a ton of people don't purchase till the last minute. If we don't get enough to set the table we'll decide if that is super important to us.

The everyday dishes were my big thing (we needed to replace our mismatched sets) but most was done the day before my shower.

Have faith- and remember you can always return things to BBB and get what you want. Also a number of people give gift cards to BBB and then you can just get the pieces you need. Good Luck.

We didn't register for formal china, but we did register for the Mikasa Swirl dishes in white (about $40 a setting at BBB).  We didn't get any of our dishes at our showers either.  For us, this was a big deal since we're just starting out (FI is still in school & we don't live together) and need a ton of stuff.  Luckily, my roommate's mom bought us 4 sets as a surprise.  I hope we get more, but if we don't I suppose we'll just suck it up and purchase another 4 sets ourselves since we don't have a set of dishes.  I hope you get some of yours too!  I feel like a lot of people get china at their actual wedding. :)

  • We got our complete china collection - I was actually shocked! But because people seemed to focus on that, a lot of the other things on the registry remain.

  • We registered for 8 settings of the Noritake everyday china. My mom bought us half for the shower. No one bought the silverware, which we also really needs! Somehow, I only have half of my salad forks from our older set. :(
  • We also registered for China at BBB and we only got one place setting and one flatware set. Then my mom tells me she has an extra set of china which we can have so, we if do not get anymore I think I am just going to return it and get something else, since one set does me no good, and too expensive all 8 sets myself.
We did get our everyday plates and silverware though, the one thing my FI really wants is the knife set which is still listed,

  • I got my flatware and one set of our fine china.

I'm REALLY hoping someone gets our everyday dishwear. That's def a need.

As some of you may know by now, I work as a wedding registry consultant. I would say 99% of people who buy china and dishes do so as a wedding present rather than a shower gift. Most people who are looking to get a shower gift want something that's easier to transport and also not too fancy (this is what customers tell me anyway). Also, most guests look to spend around $50 for a shower gift, and most of the formal dinnerware is over that price point.

So don't give up hope, you might still get some for the actual wedding. And people will purchase gifts right up until the hour before your wedding. I had at least 30 customers come in today who were dressed for weddings picking up the gift literally at the last minute. :)
  • haha, thanks for the updates.  I guess we'll find out in 13 days!

  • We got one set of our china already and it says someone bought another... we got a bunch of the serving dishes and other things that match.

  • None of ours has been purchased but I'm crossing my fingers that someone at least starts us off so we can finish the set! I want it SO badly.
