dress shopping

tomorrow is my FIRST dress shopping experience! is there any advice/things I should know before i begin!?

Try on everything, even if you don't think you'll like it. Bring a bottle of water with you (trying on dresses always made me feel super warm). Wear undies that you don't mind other people seeing (i.e. no thongs). Don't be tempted to look at dresses above your budget (pretty basic, but you would be surprised how many times I was asked if I wanted to see more expensive dresses.). Don't bring a ton of people with you (the first few times I went shopping I either went by myself or brought 1 other person... the only time I brought a big group was after I had put down the deposit and I wanted to show everyone which one I picked).

Ooooh, how exciting.

I started last Saturday and I am putting my deposit down on my dress tomorrow. EEK!

Some helpful hints are:

-do NOT pick something immediately! I went to three different shops and I thought that the first dress that I tried on was the ONE but after mulling it over and having some time to think about all of it, I saw another dress 3 days later that completely topped it and I am so glad that I shopped around and saw a variety of things.

-wear clothes that are easy to take on and off. I had no idea how hot I would get after putting 3 or 4 dresses on and some of them are soooo heavy!

-if you have done a lot of online research and picked a few favorites, be prepared for the fact that they may look totally different in person. I was really surprised by how many dresses I loved in the pictures but after seeing them up close, they were not what I wanted at all.

-depending on which shops you go to, the sales people could be pushy and pressure you to purchase immediately and at times, I felt like it was similar to when I was buying my car because though they care that you are happy, it is not always their first priority.

The stores that I went to were French Bridals in Beverly, Bella Sera in Danvers and Chryssie's Bridal in Canton.

I loved Bella Sera and Chryssies but not French Bridal. French Bridal seemed more like a circus. They advertised a trunk show and I called to make an appointment but they said that one wasn't required. When I showed up, they said there actually was no trunk show and so I walked right out.

Good luck! It's a lot of fun but I am glad it's over.

I agree with the ladies above. I did a total of 3 trips - 2 by myself and one with 2 of my best friends (and bridal party). It can be overwhelming! It's good to have friends' opinions, but in my case after I shopped with my girls, I still needed to go one more time on my own to be extra sure the one we all liked was truly 'the one'. And try on a variety of styles - for about 10 years, I have held onto this dog-eared magazine clipping of a dress I always thought I'd wear. I actually didn't like the style on me in person and ended up wearing something totally different!

Also, not sure where you are looking but I was very happy with Bride's Choice in Waltham. They had the biggest selection of all the places I went and Zee (the owner) is very knowledgeable. I don't know what she did when she steamed my dress but I wore that thing all night and it still looks perfect. Wish I could wear it again!!!
