For any crafty ladies

Good evening!  I could put this on the DIY board but I know you are usually quite helpful.  I am going to be adding a lacey embellishment to my table settings (around the napkin to secure my donation favors to the napkin so they don't blow away), but basically I need to figure out how to take lace ribbon and fasten it end to end into a circle without the seam looking bad.  Should I just sew them?  (I don't really know how to sew lol) Or will hot glue work?

I know I am thinking WAY ahead but I am realizing I have a great deal of DIY I need to do and my work and school are starting to get a little hectic, so I need to start trying to cross some things off the list.

Re: For any crafty ladies

  • I would try a few different ways to see what looks best. There's something I've seen on the DIT board called glue dots but I've never used them. Other than that I'd try fabric glue or hot glue. Good luck!

  • I would think hot glue could work. Especially if you just put one small dot to close the ribbon and don't overdo it. These sound like they will end up really pretty!

  • I agree with PP, I think that if you do a few small dots of hot glue on the seam it should work. I have seen the glue dots as well but I've never used them so I don't have a recommendation about those. I would say to definately practice a few times with different techniques and see what looks the best and is the easiest for you to do! That sounds like such a cute idea!

  • First off, that sounds beautiful and I am sure they will come out great. I agree with the other ladies, I think hot glue would be fine and probably easier and faster than sewing them, but I would try a couple different methods to see what way it comes out the best.

  • Ash, there's also this stuff you can find at any fabric store called fusible interfacing. Basically, what you could do is get a piece of it, cut pieces to the size of the seam you want, and then you'd iron over it with the interfacing in between the ends of the lace until the glue woven into the interfacing bonds with the lace (with a thin piece of cotton in between the lace and the iron so that your iron doesn't get the interfacing gunk on it). This would allow your seam to lay mostly flat. Sewing would probably be hard because even if you have a sewing machine, it's hard to sew lace to itself neatly because of all the openings in the materal. Good luck and let us know how they turn out!!

  • Oh!! Even better, I forgot, there's this stuff called Stitch Witchery; it's fusible interfacing, only in a roll, like tape. So all you'd have to do it is snip off an inch or whatever and then iron it with the lace.

  • Thank you all so much!!  I had no idea about any of those things you mentioned Emily, so I will most definitely look into it, looks simple enough!

I will probably try that, and hot glue at first and see which works better and go from there.  Thanks again!
