Interview update

I definitely kicked the questions' asses today on my interview.

However, she didn't read my e-mail and wants someone to start on the 3rd. Also, she couldn't get past the fact that my school isn't title one (low income to explain it best). She kept saying "but you only have 10% of your kids free and reduced lunch, we have 80%"

She did say she'd really want me at her school but since I couldn't start right away, it probably won't happen.

Oh well that stinks about the timing. If you don't get it, at least it was a good practice for interviews!

Oh poo, I was thinking of you as I was driving home!!! It's true though, practice makes perfect. I'm happy you had one that went well, regardless of them being sort of daft with the timing and stuff.

Ugh, well, I'm glad it went well, but that's a bummer that she didn't read your email or have any understanding for any other background than what her school is.

Really, a good teacher is a good teacher, whether the school is title one or not.

Exactly. If anything, those kids need a teacher like me. I care about my students more than anything. My principal has told me I'm the most compassionate and caring teacher she's ever worked with. (Not to brag just proving why the lady was wrong)

Absolutely!  I'd say it would be a plus you aren't coming from a Title One school because you aren't burned out yet, you're so passionate about what you do.

My Mom was a teacher, and she told me teaching at private schools and upper-class schools were harder than lower-class schools because parents are a nightmare.  She could handle misbehaving children, or children whose parents weren't that involved, because she could be the authority figure they needed and guide them and help them.  But when you have hovering parents who only expect their kids to get A's at any cost, it becomes trouble.  Kids act out because they're used to getting their way, parents reinforce the bad behavior, and it's a nasty cycle.  My Mom even had one parent throw her against a wall for refusing to boost a kid's grade just because the father asked her to because "my son doesn't get C's".

Anyway, if nothing else, I hope it boosts your confidence that you were able to get an interview this quickly.  You're so qualified, and any classroom would be really lucky to have you.  I'm sure you'll find something soon!!!

    Thanks Cal :-)

I feel good after it even though I know it isn't the school for me! I'm going to wait to continue to send out resumes. It's too hard to  be far away.

Aww I'm sorry that the timing is off. But an interview is always good practice! Especially if you killed the questions! =) Do you have a recommendation letter from your current principal? If she says such nice things about you, the recruiters should know!

I hear you about the problems of trying to find a job so far away. =(

Just keep trying! You will find something.
