coctail hour

My FI and I are getting married the end of June and having an outdoor reception at my parent's house.  We are having a hard time figuring out what to serve for appitizers.  We will be having a full open bar as well so I'm wondering what suggestions you ladies have on what to and what not to serve.  My caterer does not do appitizers which is okay with us because we have access to and bartending staff to set up and handle the appitizer hour.

    stuffed mushrooms, crab cakes, rumaki, shrimp cocktail, fruit skewers, gourmet cheeses, hummus and pita bread, cocktail meatballs, spanikopita, fried ravioli....there are tons of things you can do

    We had cheese crackers and sausage and then veggies and dip.  Our cocktail hour was 1 hour long immediately after the ceremony. 

    I guess you need to think about if you have a place to keep hot food hot, and if you want people using plates or just napkins...  That would make a difference in what you could serve.

    You can have a table with cheese & crackers, sliced fruits, and a vegetable tray with dip. This table the guests can serve themsleves.
    If you want to pass appetizer you can do anything from pizza bites, crab cakes, chicken salad tart ( or anything in a tart), rumaki (which is popular and you can get it anywhere at the grocery store), stuff mushrooms, shrimp cocktail, etc.. What is important is to have variety and balance the cold and hot appetizers.

    The one suggestion I heard and am applying to my appetizers is 'no waste appetizers': no sticks, no skewers, no toothpicks. Otherwise guests will need access to plenty of garbages to throw out the waste. Not sure if you want to put garbages all over your reception site!
