How far along are you in planning?

Hello ladies!

I can't believe I didn't understand the point of having a wedding month board until someone on the etiquette board mentioned it!  I've been lurking a little, and I'm so glad I "discovered" you!

I would really love to get an idea of where I am, relatively, in planning.  I think according to the knot planner we're a little behind.  We've got the reception/ceremony sites, DJ, photography, caterer, officiant, and ceremony musician booked.  I've got my dress and shoes.  We still don't have rings, invitations, his suit, bridesmaid dresses, or a hair salon, and we haven't registered as of yet.  We still have to pick out all our rental stuff and organized beer & wine selection & delivery as well (our venue is not a conventional wedding spot, so we have some extra chores).  There are probably things to do that haven't even occurred to me yet.

I have a personality that tends to over plan and REALLY over stress.  I have wedding-related nightmares on a weekly basis Embarassed

Where are you in planning?  I know there's no "right" spot to be, but it would be comforting (or not!) to know how I'm fairing against others also planning.  My wedding is scheduled June 24th, for what its worth.

Re: How far along are you in planning?

  • We're at about the same place, except I don't have an officiant yet, and I don't have WP party so I don't have to worry about that stuff.

I'm trying not to compare myself to the other ladies on this board who are WAY ahead of me. But it's definitely hard when people are posting photos of their favors and I don't even know who is going to marry us yet!

  • It's really hard to compare yourself to others.  I would use timelines from TK to figure that out.  Some of us have been engaged for a year or longer and therefore are far along in the planning while others are just beginning their planning.  Also, it depends on the type of wedding and location.  I know in my area, vendors book quickly since it's a small state so we got that out of the way right away.

    Good luck!

I agree. For the most part everyone is in the same place but others do have small things done where as others do not. Definitely follow TK timeline. It helps a lot.
  • I have a planning blog with a checklist on the left side. Here's a link. I've marked out what we've done, so you can compare. It's so much easier than typing everything out.

  • I feel like I have so much done actually. We've had all of our vendors booked for a while now. Have the invite suite, table numbers done, guestbook done (just need to order), many DIY projects done...feel free to look at the planning bio in my siggy
  • Welcome to the board!

I'm about on par with what TK checklist has.  For some things I'm a little ahead but for the most part I'm with it.

  • I have: my dress, bridesmaids dresses, photographer, DJ, 'cake', ceremony/reception spots

I NEED: invitations, suits, rings, registry, Rehersal dinner spot

I think those are the major things.  Good luck!

<div>I would have to ditto... I would not compare know that everyone is different and we all have different personality. The only thing that some of us have in common is that we are getting married in June. There are type A,B,C personalities. If you are type A you have everything planned by that checklist. Type B may have some of the things and somethings you will need reminders, Type C  maybe doing everything by the reminders they see on this site. It is nothing wrong with either of these personalities. </div><div>
</div><div>I am Type B by the way, I read these checks to see if I am missing something, while planning this destination wedding. </div>

  • We have all the big stuff nailed down, were jsut down to the details.  I have my dress, vail, and I just ordered my shoes. (I hope they fit!) We need invites, his ring (mine came as a set), and an officiant. I'm sure there are many little things that I haven't thought of yet.
  • I think I'm in the same stage of readiness as you-- also in the NYC area. Maybe you're a little further along actually, so that should give you a little confidence I hope.... I do have the hair/makeup person, but it was easy--a colleague who used to do it as a side gig. (PM me if you're stuck on that one and I'll find out if she's available for yours--we're doing some trials after the New Year). Just made an appointment to meet with a florist for next week.

    Otherwise still need:
shoes, BM dresses, FI still deciding if men are wearing tuxs or suits, need to take my mom shopping for her dress (my Mom is in her 80's), need ceremony musicians, registry, need to plan/book honeymoon, havent met with my officiant yet to plan ceremony (though it's someone I grew up with), need to pick out rings (though we both kind of know what we'd like), invitations, kitubah (Jewish marriage document), nail down events of the weekend, and all the other oodles of little things....
