It's like right next to BWI airport.  There's not a whole lot out there, except the airport.  I have no idea if it's safe or neighborhood-y or what.  I probably wouldn't choose to live there, simply because I've been out and around BWI - and there's not really anything there!  Baltimore is not far, and it's much more fun.

I thought you said your FI would be based out of Dulles?  Can he do BWI instead?  If it's Dulles, I'd suggest you look a little closer to Virginia.

That said, I know a guy who lives in Bowie, a small town just west of Annapolis.  It's a really adorable town, with lots of little shops and such.  Worth a look?

I looked it up on a map, Glen Burnie isn't going to work. I will be working in downtown Annapolis and he will be based in Dulles, so I think we need to work from there.

    Putting it on a map...

The ones that would be within 90 minutes (even in traffic) to Dulles would be in the middle.  North Bethesda, Silver Spring, Bethesda, Chevy Chase are all fun areas on that route.

So what's up with all the places only having one sink. I have a split sink, with two basins. All the places I've seen have one. Are garbage disposals strange in the NE?

Dunno... I can't remember ever having two sinks in DC, but always had a dish disposal.  I do have two sink basins in my kitchen in Florida, but no disposal. My parents' house in Boston area has two sinks. So maybe it's just a DC/MD/VA thing?

Dishwasher is my kitchen necessity.  I won't even consider a place without one!

Glen Burnie is a not very nice area.  There's lots of run down section 8 housing there.  If you're looking for areas outside of Annapolis, I'd check out Arnold, Crofton, or Bowie.  I've heard Pasadena and Edgewater are pretty nice, but I didn't really spend much time in either area while I was living in Annapolis.

A friend of mine works for the US Prosecutor's office and lives in Silver Spring, and he loves it.

I don't know how close Falls Church is to where you're looking, but that area is GORGEOUS.

ps. I may have to come visit you one of these years. I love DC in the fall ::swoon::

I don't know anything about residential MD, and I'm sure you already checked there, but what about one of the local boards?

All the locals will be too nice to me GPB. I can't have that. I haven't gotten there yet. I'm trying to do 80 things at once.

That's right, het! You need a good, swift kick in the ass. Well, we're the board for that - apparently the meanest. *finishes cigarette and steps on it*

Oh, oh, found the thread!! I pass Glen Burnie on the way home from work every day. Like most places it has it's o.k and not so o.k areas. It's Anne Arundle county, which is the county Annapolis, Pasandea, Crofton and other nice areas are in. The side of Glen Burnie closer to Baltimore is a little sketchy but there are nicer areas as well. We looked at houses there, there are some sweet little areas if you look.

Oh, and I work in Annapolis and live in White Marsh. Glen Burnie is closer to Annapolis than where I live.

I will be working on Prince George St, FI will be working at Dulles. I finally looked up that area. I think that's too far north. What about Stephenville or Centerville??

Centreville, VA? Oh Het - you'd be looking at a 2 hour commute! I don't know of a Centerville, MD. I honestly never left the Beltway. I continue to vote for Bethesda or Silver Spring. Almost exactly midpoint between the two jobs.

I agree with this, if you're looking for something in the middler! Good luck with wherever you end up. And once you're in MD, we can meet up!

Isn't there a centerville near stephenville, kinda on the water? That's what google maps told me. Since I will going into work everyday, and he will typically will be going 2-3 times a week, so the inclination would be to be closer to my work.

THere's a Stevensville MD across the Bay Bridge but that would be REALLY far for your FI. And the Bay Bridge blows - sometimes an hour or more to cross.

You could live in NW DC and have about a 45 minute reverse commute. Otherwise I'm kind of useless. :(

The thing to understand about DC is that the beltway (the big circle around DC) is sort of a divider.  It is typically a very difficult commute if you have to go on the beltway, and there's usually no such thing as a reverse commute since someone's always going somewhere.  It's to be avoided if at all possible, both because you don't want a nightmare commute and your FI needs to be able to get to Dulles without taking too much time.

Is there a reason you don't want to look at Silver Spring, Rockville, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Bowie?  Are those too far away for you?  I'd say from any of those, you'd be looking at 20-30 minute commute (40 on really bad traffic days), and no more than 60 minutes for your FI.
