need advice, please

my co-workers threw me a shower.  i know work paid for the shower, but co-workers contributed individually to the gifts.

the problem?  i do not know who contributed.  there is a signed card.  not everyone invited to the shower attended, but all invitees signed the card.

do i send thank you notes to everyone who signed the card (and assume they contributed to the gifts), or just the people who attended the shower (and assume people who did not attend did not contribute to the gifts)?

Ooh...That's a tough one.  I think to be safe, I'd thank everyone who signed the card.

I would buy an obnoxiously large thank you card (available at Hallmark) and thank the entire office with that one card.  Just make sure you hang it in the breakroom or something.

i'd just write a TY note to all of the people who signed the card - when we did parties at work with a group card/gift, we'd pass around an envelope with the card and people would contribute what they wanted to the group gift and sign the card. I'd assume that most if not all of the people who signed the card contributed to the gift, even if they were unable to attend.

    Ditto nico.

If there is a place you can put one big card to thank everyone that would be best.

I would go with the one card to everyone, but if that doesn't work, send TY's to everyone that signed the car.

Walking down the hall with a bullhorn works too.

For any mail received to our 'group' (like TY cards) someone paper clips it into a file folder and a list of everyone's name is on the outside of the folder and it gets passed around so everyone gets a chance to read it.  Would something like that work?

I did one TY card and a huge tray of cookies to thank everyone.  If one ty isn't going to work, then it looks like you should do one to everyone.

In my office a mass email was considered appropriate thanks for a group gift.

My first thought was to go with Nico's suggestion, but if you are not comfortable with that, send a TY to all invitees.

My office, too.  Once in a while someone would bring in cookies or bagels for the department and put a thank you card next to it, too.

Combine all of these and walk down the hallways with a bullhorn while wearing Nico's shirt and firing cookies from a slingshot.  I know that is a lot to handle, but you should be able to balance the cookies on your belly and use one hand for the bullhorn and one hand for the slingshot.
