Wedding Cookie Cake

Would any of you consider a wedding cookie cake over a regular cake covered in fondant or buttercream? There's two types of wedding cookie cakes that I know of:

1) a foam base covered in icing to give it the illusion that it's a cake with sugar cookies in various shapes stabbed in the foam so that guests can easily take one (yay! no cake cuttinng cost!); I've seen the cookies decorated quite lavishly with various little designs and a hard icing glaze finish

or

2) A giant cookie cake that's flat and in any shape that the bride and groom wants with the same hard icing finish and design of choice

I think for my wedding (one day...haha) I would consider doing one of these. What about you guys?

Re: Wedding Cookie Cake

  • One of the brides who used to post on TK did giant cookies for her wedding cake and it worked out great.

  • mmm cookie cake!
  • I personally wouldn't do it for my cake, just because I've always wanted the layer cake.  But I think it's a really cute idea and would be really tasty too.

  • A girl I know did a "cookie cake".  She had a cupcake stand and then piled large chocolate chip cookies on it and served them with milk.  It was super cute and everyone loved it.
