Red Dress and Shoes??

So, I am really leaning towards having a red wedding dress.  It's very difficult to find, especially in a plus size.  But I'm working on it!   However, I'm having trouble settling on a colour of shoes to get.  They need to have little to no heal as I don't want to be taller then my groom.  If I go red I want white embroidery and will have a white veil (one that goes straight down the back, not surrounding me), and will likely have white flowers.  My dad is not happy with the thought of a red dress so I thought these accessories would make it more "wedding-y".  (My spouting off about how a white dress hasn't been the norm for that long in the grand scheme of things falls on deaf ears.)  So I was thinking white shoes as well, but will this look a little off?  I read a lot of people get silver so they can wear them again, but with a red dress, I'm not sure it'll blend in all that well.

Also, how common is it to just wear a sandal of some sort, nothing really dressy?  I have trouble finding comfy dressy shoes as I have wide but small feet.  Thanks!

I think it totatlly depends on the dress you find. If it's long, then it almost won't matter what color you get. White might work really well with your other accesories, but I'd also consider metalics and blacks too. ALso, it's fine to wear a sandal of some sort, a lot of people do, and you can find some that are pretty dressy.

  • I know a woman who got married in a long red wedding dress and it was fabulous.  She went sans veil, and wore some dyable shoes that she dyed red to match her dress.  I would think that if you paired a metallic silver or black with the dress it would look more natural than wearing a white shoe with a red dress, IMO.  Of course, if it's a long dress then it doesn't really matter, like PP said.

  • Yeah, I've also considered black as well, but wasn't sure if that would seem a little off if I didn't have any black accesories.  But I guess you guys have a point.....with a long dress, who will really notice?  I'm already thinking about shoes since I may have to order a dress in from online in order to get a wedding-y red dress (yes....from china, which I know isn't recommended, but I have yet to see anything all red with white accents in a shop here......I have someone who can do extreme fixes if need be), so I need shoes soon to custom order.

  • I would probably wear silver with a red gown.  I don't think wearing white shoes is going to solve the "dad doesn't think the red dress is weddingish enough".   Go with something metallic.    Also, you aren't stuck buying a dress from china.  Look for stores that do Quinceañera  dresses.  Mori Lee has a pretty good line of prom/Quinceañera gowns and most of them come in various colors.
  • Thank you for mentioning the Quinceañera dresses!  I didn't even know what they were, and are definitely more along the lines I was looking for!  And I think I agree with you about the silver shoes.  Seems fancier then black, but not as stark as white, or as difficult to do as finding or making a matching red.

  • Also, look for wedding dress stores that specialize for dresses for brides from India and possibly China.  I know that those countries, and possibly many others, wear red and other colors for their wedding.

  • The thing with dress for other cultures is they often reflect other cultures, and I'd hate to seem like I was trying to imitate a culture I'm not apart of.

I went shopping today and ended up with 3 pairs of shoes.  Oops. (Sales are awesome though, I ended up spending my shoe budget on three pair and can resell the unused shoes I bet!)  A flat pair that's almost a gunmetal with a bit of bling, an silvery-ivory pair, and red pair!  The flat pair will not work out well I think, now that I've brought them home, but could look awesome with other things.  And the other two are the same height, so if I have to measure for a dress and the one is a really off colour, then the other should work.
