Charitable Donations

My fiancé and I are donating money to a dog rescue instead of doing traditional favors at the reception. Would y'all think it's acceptable to put something out at the reception for our guests giving them the option of also making a monetary contribution to this organization?

Re: Charitable Donations

  • I wouldn't do it.  It is sweet that you want to donate your money to the rescue, but don't turn your wedding into a fundraiser.

<div>I agree. I dislike these kind of "favors" at weddings</div>

<div>It's your wedding... I guess in a sense you can do whatever you want to do.</div><div>
</div><div>I personally wouldn't do it and think your wedding isn't the place to raise money for your favorite charity. I'm not a fan of people making donations in my name or requesting I make a donation to a charity that I may or may not donate to otherwise. It may make your guests feel obligated to donate or cause those who didn't bring cash (or have extra money to give) to feel awkward. </div><div>

<div>First bolded part: I try to discourage this line of thinking. When you involve others, it ceases to be only about the bride and groom. </div><div>
</div><div>OP, the needs and comforts of your guests need to be considered, and I think it will make your guests feel uncomfortable if you do this, as PP mentioned in the latter part of her post. </div>
