Sandals/Beaches Brides..

Did any opt to just have the included 1/2 hour reception and then just try to get your wedding group into one of the restaurants instead of paying the $50 per person for their reception? I just simply can't afford to pay the $50pp and the wedding coordinator informed my TA that they "probably wouldn't be able to accomodate my group into a restaurant". I think it's a BS sales tactic becuz I know I have seen other brides with bigger groups post about doing this. I was just wondering what everyones experience was.

Re: Sandals/Beaches Brides..

  • We had 50 guests so we did the formal 3 hour reception.  How large is your group?  You're getting married at RC, right?  They won't be able to confirm it for you in advance, but if your group isn't very large, they shouldn't have a problem accomodating you.  Chances are that you won't have your pick of restaurants, but they should be able to fit you in the Regency or Pavillion (if my memory serves me correctly and you're getting married at RC.)  Keep in mind that the onsite WCs are much more helpful and not "sales" people like the contacts that you speak to out of Miami from Sandals.

Yep, I'm having the same issue. I'm actually thinking about going ahead and paying the $50 per person if we end up with 10 or less guests. If we have more than that, we just have to go with the 1/2 hour reception and try our best to get a restaurant reservation.  Even with the 1/2 hour reception its $15 pp beyond the 1st 2 guests.  Its just not in our budget to pay more than $500 for the reception.

I'm hoping someone will post who has had a larger group and also got a restaurant reservation. That would be great news to know its possible despite what the "sales" wedding coordinator  says.

  • We are only doing the 1/2 hour reception and then planning dinner at a restaurant afterwards.  More than half of our group is getting butlers and there will only be 16-20 of us so I was told that this shouldn't be too much of an issue.  It's not in our budget to do the reception either since we want to have an AHR at a later date.  And as my brother told me, why would we spend any more for the same food we have already spent thousands for?  He's such a smart man.
  • Thanks everyone for the replies. I know of a bride who just got married at Ochos Rios and was able to get 27 guests into a restaurant. I have 17 including us. And Nurse, that's exactly how I feel. If we are all paying thousands to be there, we should be able to all be reserved at a restaurant. We just really can't afford to pay the $1000 extra just for dinner.
  • The way I feel about it though is that it's your wedding, you would pay way more to have a reception state side.  My guests (approx. 50) are flying all the way down there and paying for a hotel. the  least I can do is spend $50 on a nicer reception for them beyond a dinner they could have any other night that they are there.

If its out of your budget that is a seperate issue but I think if they are going to come all the way down to Jamaica for me I can do that for them considering as I would spend at least 3 times that amount if I had a reception in the DC area.

    Good luck!
  • I'm an Ocho Rios bride and I think our group will be around 15 people? I was told that any group over 10 can't be seated together. (by the "sales" lady) But I've heard that's false once you actually get there. (By former brides) Either way, I decided to wing it and hope we can all get seated together. I simply can't afford $50 per person for dinner. I know people say "but they spent so much to go to your wedding..." But when it comes down to spending that 1,000 on a photographer or the extra dinner for the guests...I'm going to spend it on a photographer, sorry.

  • Do you all know that they have a new menu wedding kit? It is a add on for the previous menu.  Basically say u your getting married in the morning and u are have a morning reception, they have a morning menu and it is cheaper.  from 7 am to 10:30 they have a menu that is for $25 pp and they have a menu for $40pp.  and for lunch it is the same way from 11:30 to 4 pm $40 pp.  It is just a add on so they will still have the previous menus that was given to u in the wedding package.  I'm getting married @ 12:00 so I well be have a lunch menu.  This just came out so I'm going to jump on  that LOL!!!

  • I think if you are just having your reception at Sandals then maybe pay $50pp is do-able. But we're also having an AHR back at home where we will be spening a lot of money for people to have dinner and drinks with us at a restaurant. So that's why we can't afford to have both one at Sandals & at home. If people can afford both- that's awesome! But for us...there's just no way.
  • Thanks Natalee! I was just having a minor freakout about it! I knew this was the place to make me feel better :)
