NWR: Coach bag

I was given an old Coach bag and it's like an ivory white.  The bottom of the canvas is pretty dirty.  Does anyone know how to clean it without buying their cleaner?

Sorry to post and go, any help would be appreciated!

Re: NWR: Coach bag

  • You can call Coach and see if there's a drycleaner near you who specializes in cleaning them. I know having them cleaned by a "regular" cleaner voids the warranty or something. Undecided

  • Ugh Verizon has me on hold STILL...wow really just regular soap will do it?

MsMery I'm thinking since I didn't purchase it, the warranty doesn't really affect me right?  I don't have it anyway??
  • Good point.  I didn't even think about taking it to a cleaner. Try the soap and warm water, and if that doesn't work, take it to a cleaner.
  • This is what stops me from buying a light colored purse.  Plus, I'm a klutz anyway.

I agree with the person that suggested a dry cleaner.

    Good luck.
  • I would take it to a cleaner as well. Using the gentle soap and water might work but then you might also get the rings around where you cleaned. That happened to me once on a light brown coach purse I have. Very sad indeed. I did end up taking it to a dry cleaners and they were able to fix some of it but still. Save yourself the trouble, especially if the warranty may no longer apply to you.
  • Zoe, I think Coach has a lifetime warranty. I've brought my bag in before and they didn't ask for any specific reciept or when I bought it. (This specific one I bought at an outlet, actually. I also needed a wallet fixed, which I bought at an outlet and they said they couldn't fix it but offered to give me what the item was worth - which is twice what I paid for it. I kept the wallet and they just gave me a 40% discount on my next purchase.) They can look up the model number and see when that particular bag was released, and know how old it is. But still. I think the warranty is forever.

I find Coach to be fairly well made bags. My Michael Kors bag has needed to be repaired twice (and it does again now), the first time was in the first 4 months I had it. And no one at the stores knows how to go about getting it fixed, and corporate just said they'd give me another bag, but couldn't promise it would be the same color. So I just paid to fix it on my own. Like I said, with Coach, if anything happens, they'll send your bag in for $20 and fix it. If they can't, they'll either send it back or reimburse you the full cost.

  • Bad News- Drycleaners usually wont touch Coach purses becuase of the leather on them.
More bad news, Coach used to send bags out for cleaning but not anymore.

Good news- Coach treats their bags for stains so they're fairly easy to clean. I once got hot chocolate on my brown signature and ti came out right away with just water and a microfiber. For not so fresh soils, Baby wipes can work and you can also use an gentle soap like ivory and some warm water with a microfiber. I've used tide on my white purse and it cleaned it up quite nicely. BE CAREFUL though, I made sure you get the detergent soapy on my microfiber rag before touching it to my purse. If you put it directly on it may stain your purse blue. I've also heard of rpoepl putting them in the washing machine but IDK if I'd do that. I'd try had washing first with laundry detergent
