Anyone have any ideas on something to get DH? We usually dont do anything crazy expensive. I cant even remember what i got him last year. I have already done pictures in a frame. TIA
We don't really do much for V-Day only because our dating anniversary is about a week after, so we didn't really do the whole gift thing. I usually make him up a bag with some of his favorite candy or make him chocolate cover strawberries (his favorite dessert)
Our dating anniversary is 2 days before! So we always celebrate on the 12th which sure helps with getting reservations! I usually bake something and he gets me flowers or something like that and we go somewhere special for dinner. Early on when we were first dating we'd spend a sizeable amount but now it just seems silly.
FI got Kiehl's products this year for Christmas and loved them. So I got him more.
Get him something he uses everyday. (ex. Dunkin Donuts gift card, something for work, renew his gym membership, videogame he really wanted) ... I don't know, I'm making things up. haha. But you get my drift.
I don't believe in going all out for V tines day. I feel it's a "commercia" holiday if anything else. We used to go out to dinner, but have been disappointed so many times we stopped going. It seems most places have smaller menus and crappy rushed service on that date, so we just go out a week or a few days before or after to celebrate at one of our favorites places where it is business as usual. Other than dinner, I may buy her flowers, but that's about it.
I usually just buy him some kind of treat, like chocolate-covered pretzels from a local candy shop. He usually gets me something small like flowers or some candy.
For our first Valentine's Day as a couple, we went to an Italian restaurant on Feb. 14 ... ooof, never again. The place was PACKED. If we go out for a Valentine's Day dinner, we either go to a low-key place on the 14th (pizza, burgers, etc.), or if we go to a fancier place we save it for a date NEAR the 14th, not on the 14th itself. For a couple years, we made a nice meal at home together.

I agree. we're not big on celebrating Valentine's day and definitely do not exchange gifts. The first year we were together, he got me roses, but I personally feel it is a waste of money, especially because the prices are jacked up. We usually have just gone out to dinner, but it is always expensive and seems like a waste. This year I think we might either go out to dinner a few nights before, or just stay home and have a nice night together at home.

We always go out a few days before and I try to do something for him instead of buying him something.
This year I am going to attempt to cook one of his favorite dishes I have never made before.

I have to say I am not a fan of Valentines Day...to me it is a Hallmark Holiday. LOL
That being said, we used to go out to dinner on Valentines Day but like the others have said everything is always packed, so we usually go to Mt Fuji in NY the weekend before because we love to go there and it gives us an excuse to go and splurge on a nice dinner. We don't usually exchange gifts, and I tell my husband NOT to send me flowers, because I feel like they are a waste of money.

Thanks :) The old saying "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" definitely holds true in my relationship!
Good luck with your V-Day. You seem to be putting a lot of effort in and that is what is most important.

I usually just get him something small -- a small box of chocolates from Maison du Chocolat or boxers or something. I tell him not to get me flowers (I hate roses, and V-Day flowers die too early and are too expensive anyway). He usually gets me something edible too.
If Valentine's Day is on a weekend, we'll go to a restaurant that does not have a V-Day menu. That usually prevents drama. If it is during the week, we will go somewhere for dinner the next weekend (our dating anniversary is the 23rd, so that kills 2 birds with one stone). We usually don't do anything romantic, and usually pretty casual. That fits us.

Like User said, we don't regard it as a big deal.
