Is he stationed anywhere near Lejuene? If so Wilmington which is just to the south is so cute and has lots of old beautiful houses to use as venues.

Also, consider checking with the NC local board if the ladies here can't help. The local board will have more people in that area so I would think more reccommendations. I have never been to NC myself :o)
Welcome to the board and congratulations!
Whens the wedding, what made you choose that area as your location, how long have you two better together, what are your wedding colors?
GL with the wedding planning! :)

My husband and I had considered Wilmington a location for our weddding. But we ended up getting married in Seattle. If you are thinking Wilmington I have some suggestions for sites. Let me know!

thank you for all the help already! he is statoined in Cherry point but probably trnasfering units to Lejuene. i will certainly have to check out Wilmington! we have only been together for 6 months, but he has been my best friend for the past 3 years.. we were in MCT (feild training) together lol. he wants to do a military wedding so the colors are going to be the standard of blue, red, and accents of white (that silly man wants to wear his blues but that is his decision) the wedding isnt untill march of 2013 but that is because we are going to do a court house wedding when he comes home. we dont want our parents paying for our wedding.

Hey, I don't blame him! That uniform looks gooooood. :) H wore his dress whites and I LOVED it!  I think the red/white/blue can look super classy if done right. WishIcouldbe.. did those colors for her and her Marine H's wedding.
Samij knows NC the best I think (as far as this board goes) so she may be able to suggest some things for you.
    GL and happy planning!

firsttimersluck - I whole heartedly agree that the uniform looks good! but i also know that it is far from comfortable, and females uniforms aren't as constricting as the mens. but i am excited none the less. As for the color combo, im gonna have my girls in red dresses because all of the grooms men are NCO's so i figured the red will accent nicely with the blood stripe on their blues, and then just do crisp clean white with blue and slight gold accenting for the rest.

thank you for suggesting that i inquire more with Samij, i will certainly do so!

i appreciate all the support that i am already recieving from you all, it truly does mean a lot!

Oh I'm sure she'll pop herself in this thread at some point, no need to search her out :)
Hey we military brides have to stick together ;) That's what the board is for, after all.
THe red dresses sound beautiful! How's the wedding planning going so far? Sounds like you have a lot of ideas generating, andthing set in stone just yet? I know you have plenty of time, just curious. Have you looked at wedding gowns yet? You will have to share!

H and I had a yellow and blue wedding because those are a couple of our favorite colors, and kinda "Navy" like (H is Navy) without being TOO in your face military.
Are you guys going to do a sword arch?

right now planning is still kind of up in the air, it is difficult because my maid of honor is in MI (retired navy) one sister is in NC (active Marine) and younger sister is in CA (married into the corps) really the only things that are set in stone at this point are: colors, state, date, and that the boys are wearing their blues. i have looked at a few dresses i am just having a really hard time with it all because my mother is in a dif state to be entierly honest with you i really dont have any girl friends in the area, they are all out of state (thank you USMC) i know that i want to do a strapless and i am thinking an a-line but we shall see.

as for the sword arch, it was decided on before we had even decided on our date. FI is a lifer when it comes to the corps so i knew that he was going to want to do it, and that it was going to happen wether i wanted it to or not. but i am ok with it because if it wasnt for the corps FI and i wouldnt have ever met eachother

The arch makes for great pictures!
I'm a little bummed we didn't get to have one, but our venue just didn't have a great place to hold it. Oh well :P

I know what you mean... I actually went dress shopping with just H. He and I picked out the gown together. :)
You have a great start on the planning stuff, especially since you have plenty of time. Make sure you get military clauses in the vendor contracts, just in case! The military can be unpredictable as you know ;)

    ETA: Here I am!!!
So you're planning a VR for 2013.  I live in NC & my H will come home from Japan to PCS to New River.  NC is really an awesome state because you have the mountains, & the beach.  You could always get married on a beach and since that's technically owned by the state, it'd probably be cheap.  I have an awesome photographer here in NC (A friend from HS) if you're interested.  Congrats to you and your FI! I hope you stick around.  Although, there's no reason you couldn't turn your JOP into your dream wedding and have it sooner?  Anyway, like I said, Stick around!! This is an awesome group of ladies, and we'd love to help you plan!

happy that your H will be home soon! i was in cherry point for 5 months for school a few years back before i PCSd to Yuma, and i fell in LOVE with it! he doesn't want a beach wedding given that the boys want to wear their blues. so it makes it a little more difficult. and the only reason we are doing a JOP when he comes home and then the actual ceremony later is because my sister is deploying right before he comes home and our families need the time to make travel arrangments. (they are all in CA and FL) and to be quite honest with you i dont handle REALLY cold well so i didnt want to do it in the winter, but i can not stand humid summers so we opted for the spring. any suggestions for photographers and anything else you can think of out there would be greatly appreciated! and yes this is one very welcoming and supportive group of ladies and i am lucky to be able to have the ability to talk to you all, it really is a very big help

    That's our SamiJ :)
    haha

Totally agree on the idea of looking for state/county run places. We found a waterfront venue (view of the ocean, without being a beach or outdoor wedding) and it was sooo incredible and WAY cheaper than anything else all because it was a Ferry terminal :) Thank you, Washington state.
Google your county Parks and Rec to give you some ideas!
Googling "wedding venues in ____ " will pop up the most popular, and usually most expensive venues. Just a heads up :) (especially the suggestions The Knot gives you!)

Sorry I posted in the other thread and didn't realize you have already started this here.  Again sorry.  I agree NC has some very pretty places and it is also very close to South Carolina.  There are tons of resorts.  Our guys wore blues and we did a "beach close" location.  The resort we used had a grassy area that back up close to the dunes and you could see and hear the ocean in the background.  It was really very pretty.  We got married in April and it was perfect weather.  My hair does not do well in humid.  HAA

This was our set up.  The trash can was not in any of the photos.  HA!!!!
