I love all three of them fairly equally (as in, if I had to choose I would probably choose based on budget. However, it's considered kind of rude to be planning your own engagement party.

I agree, those flowers are beautiful. I love peonies!

But yes, big ditto to the pp.. it's very rude to host your own engagement party. Pre-wedding parties are a gift that are hosted by others. It can be anyone, parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents, friends, etc.. it's rude to host it yourself because you're essentailly throwing a party in honor of yourself where people may or may not bring gifts. Even if you're not expecting gifts, most people won't show up to a party empty handed and will bring at least a bottle of wine or champagne.

My dad is in the wine business and made it clear drinks were provided & we aren't inviting many people to this its more for the parents, so I don't think it would be rude if my mom's friend who is a florist asked what kind of flowers I would prefer...

How is it rude to host your own engagment party? As long as you make it clear you don't expect gifts and that it's an occasion for everyone to come together and get to know each other I don't think it's rude.

I don't see how it is rue if it's clear it is a get together and not part of the gift receiving....thought people generally brought gifts for the wedding

It's rude to throw a party in your own honor. It has nothing to do with whether gifts are given or not, and I know that I never show up and an engagement party without something small like wine.

A lot of people feel it's tradition to bring gifts to an engagement party. If you really don't care about gifts, I don't understand why you couldn't just throw a party, forget the "engagement" label, people will still congratulate you and ask to hear the story and all that.

It's not really a huge concern I'm just kind of helping my mom get it together, she doesn't know every last person that I would have liked to invite, she doesn't know  if I wanted to do appetizers or a full dinner....I'm just helping with ideas...didn't realize it was such a huge deal

    1) it's rude to host anything in your own honor.  It's the equivalent of standing up in front of a group and saying "look how awesome I am!"

    2) it's rude to every mention gifts in ANY way.  Gifts are NEVER to be expected so saying "no gifts, please" indicates that you would be expecting them otherwise, which isn't okay.

But the OP has already clarified that she isn't hosting her own e-party, so she's totally in the clear.

To answer your question Syndey, unless you are having a super formal party, I like the middle picture the best.  That type of arrangement is really pretty and feminine, but feel less "formal" to me and more party-like than the top or bottom photos (though I realize those are bouquets).

It isn't in 2013, when making my account with the knot they required you choose a date. I chose a random date.
