Getaway Car

I am unsure about when the bride and groom are supposed to zip off in their "Just Married" getaway car. It makes sense to have it at the reception, but if you've been drinking you would have to be driven around, and unless you're in a limo it seems kinda lame.
Do people do it after the ceremony?
Thanks

Re: Getaway Car

  • Our party bus had a "just married" sign on the back of it which took us from the ceremony to reception. H's groomsmen did decorate his car as well (wrote on the windows and such) which was waiting for us at the reception venue. H and I did not drink a whole lot at our wedding. He had a couple beers and I had a couple glasses of wine early on. I was so thirsty and hot (it was almost 100º that day), I stuck to water so we didn't have to worry about being driven home. If you are planning on heavily imbibing, it would definitely be necessary to line up a ride home. In that case, you could still have a Just Married sign on the car, though.

Ditto Lia. At the hotel, where my car was, we discovered some guests had stolen away from the reception for a bit and decorated my car there. We weren't drunk, so we just drove it home (after going to the car wash).
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • We rented a Lincoln Towncar (with driver) to take us to our hotel afterwards. I think the whole decorating of the car is senseless, but that's JMHO. The car had a 2 hour minimum, so it went back to the venue and waited for my parents and family to finish cleaning up the venue and then took them to their hotel, since they had been drinking, too. They would have gotten a taxi anyways, so it was great that we were able to share the car and the expense.
  • There's no wrong answer. It's whatever works best for you.
We're taking the shuttle the rest of the guests are taking from the reception back to the hotel for the night. Then we hired a car and driver to pick us up at 5am to take us to the airport for our 7am flight to Hawaii.

No get away car here. We hired a car service to take us home. It was $60 well spent.

[QUOTE]We left the reception in MoH's car, which we borrowed for the honeymoon. They did decorate it but it wasnt specifically a fancy "getaway" type car. We had a dry wedding so drinking and driving wasnt an issue. The point to decorating the car is to get reactions from people on the road and at places you stop, so it doesn't really matter if you are driving it or someone else is. I do think it'd be kind of a waste to decorate a car just to go straight from the ceremony to the reception though.

What people don't realize is in most states it's illegal to drive with streamers, balloons, signs, cans, window writings etc because it obstructs the view of the driver and can be dangerous to other drivers. If a cop really wants to be an a$$hole he can pull you over and give you a bunch of tickets.
