Bridesmaid Dresses for the Modest and Busty

Hello all! This is my first post on the forums so do let me know if I'm breaking protocol here. I just recently got engaged and am just starting to plan things. I've already hit a bit of a snag with dressing my bridesmaids. I have three: one very small, petite and two very busty. All three are pretty modest. My mother is a seamstress and has volunteered to custom make shrugs for them to avoid any, uhm, curvy issues. However I know she's going to busy enough as it is and was wondering if I'd be able to find dresses that would take care of that for us. Does anybody have any ideas on what types of necklines would look good on both busty and not-so-endowed women?

Re: Bridesmaid Dresses for the Modest and Busty

  • David's Bridal has some "y-neck" dresses that are cute but covered. :) My bridesmaids loved them when they tried them on- and they range in size from A cups to DD!
  • Some girls don't need to wait so long! All of my bridesmaids I've known for 10+ years. Hell, one of them moved away 7 years ago. She can't move any further! I know it's good advice, but it's annoying not being able to ask the two girls I've been friends with for seven years because of "not wanting to jump the gun".

I am waiting, but only because I'm not ready for the full onslaught of phone calls and parties just yet.

Really hard. But I wanna do that because I want you

  • That wedding date actually isn't accurate - we haven't set a definitive date yet so I just clicked that one to give the profile an answer. Also I am a very anxious person so planning waaaay ahead is something I need to do to not have a meltdown.

pixiepea - awesome! David's Bridal is near me so I will definitely check them out, thank you.
  • Even if you do need some alterations it shouldn't be that big of a deal, adding a little panel at the bottom of a v-neck is a quick fix if there is extra fabric available i.e. from having a dress hemmed.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

I agree. It is good advice for the general public, but not for everyone. Since we had a 9 month engagement, it didn't really matter that I asked right away. Even so, I am only having 2 b/c they're the only ones I want. I didn't ask any temporal friends. I know things can change with those.

i have 3 girls in my party. my engagement is 2 years (almost to the day!), and i had to ask my girls early due to engagement parties and general inquizitions from family and friends.  so PP are right. there's no one right answer for when to ask your girls.

As far as dresses go, i'm a huge fan of the one my girls picked (in my siggy)  Mori Lee 744.  The halter looks GREAT on all of them and its not too low cut for the busty ladies =)  the bodice is fitted- perfect to hide imperfections, but it also doesn't look like a potato sack, or make anyone look pregnant.  the gown is chiffon, so you dont see any bulges or rolls or wrinkles underneath =)
best part - it has boning and the secure halter strap so you dont have any chicken wing pictures (girls yanking up their dresses all night)
  • My state is the motherland for modest bridesmaid dresses.  Do you mean like with sleeves?

  • I'm having two bridesmaids, they were one of the first things I knew about my wedding. My best friend and another close friend who was one of my FI's friends since grade school and one of the first of his friends to bring me into the group! How could they NOT be my bridesmaids? So, I do not agree that picking them early is a mistake. They practically picked themselves.

Anyhow, one is about 5 ft tall and the other is about 5' 8" probably. So, I'm choosing a color and letting them pick out something that will flatter them. The only other requirement is that they feel stunning! If you're set on them wearing the same dress- why don't you ask them what necklines they feel comfortable wearing and see if any of them match up?

  • No problem! I loved the dresses so much I wanted to get one for myself for the honeymoon.
  • You can consult a good dress designer who would be able to give you a better suggestion over the same. You can also search clothing sites for bridesmaid dresses
