Tented Wedding?

Because of the extremely limited venue areas where we are getting married, we have been thinking about doing it all in a tent on my family's ranch (we're doing a country theme anyway) for about 150 people.

Just curious how many of you are having your ceremony/reception in a tent? Does this seem to be more expensive overall? If you don't mind sharing, how much did your tent, table/chair rentals, lighting, etc cost?

We are getting married on our family farm in western Wisconsin. For rentals (tent, tables, chairs, linens, dance floor) is was around $3000 total. It probably didn't save us money necessarily over any venues, but gave us a lot more flexibility, we don't have to pay the ridiculously inflated prices for beer/wine/spirits that most venues charge, we could pick almost any caterer/type of food we want, we could party for as long as we wanted and set up the space sooner. So for us it was worth it.

I'm thinking of a venue that would require a tent (for about 200 people). I've gotten 2 quotes and it ranges from $4500 to $5500 (tables, chairs, linens, plates/silverware/glasses, dance floor, etc). The location I want is also $3000 in and of itself (ceremony and reception site) but also requires renting a boat to take people to and from the island (another $1000) and of course catering and alcohol which can range in price. We are also looking at 2 hotel venues in the mountains - both of which will be 20-24,000 but much more all inclusive and have indoor options. Here's the thing that worries me the most about the outdoor/island option.... what if it rains???

We are having a tented reception hosted at a local restaurant. The price includes walls, tables, chairs, linens, plates, silverware, dance floor, bar, hanging lights, christmas lights all around the tent poles, fans/heaters if necessary. For 5 hours the restaurant charges $1250 for a Friday night reception. When I saw this place and the prices my jaw dropped. We had previously looked into renting all of the above mentioned and doing a tented reception at my parent's house, but the cost was so much greater and we had to do all the work! If possible, I would recommend looking into places that host tented receptions around your area. It definitely ends up being way cheaper! Good luck

Our reception will be under a tent which is very normal for the area. I would ask your local board how much a tent is because it varies.

We are buying a tent from Amazon.com.

We were quoted 1,100 to rent a tent w/o sides not including set up. So I looked into how much a tent would cost. You can easily get a tent for less than 500 and use it for future parties and loan it out to friends.

We feel it is a wise investment in our entertaining future.

Our tent is 850 including walls (with windows) and setup. With the extras (dance floor, lighting, tables, chairs, etc) it will come up to around 1200. It's a good price, but we are from a small town. We are getting plates, cutlery, glasses, etc from the caterer. We asked around for catering and found that restaurants are much cheaper than traditional catering.

In the end we will save a bit, but it will be a lot more work. The plus side is that we get the exact wedding we want - unique and casual, but still beautiful.

Thanks for the help! We had also looked into buying one off amazon or ebay, the prices are pretty great. We have gotten quotes from our area and they are ridiculous
(not to mention we have to drive at least 4 hours to a city to pick up/drop off or pay for delivery!). We are also looking into renting a tent from a local business/company who already own their own for private events but might be willing to rent theirs out for a couple nights.

Wow thank you for that information. My FI wants an outside wedding and since our #1 venue that we wanted is booked I decided to look around for a place that does tented weddings and you just gave me motivation to really look around for some deals withour breaking my bank. Thanks hun anymore insight pleaseeeeeeeee come back.

Places who already own their own tent and have weddings on a weekly basis. The tent and all decorations just stay up. Plus the grounds of the restaurant should be beautifully maintained if the owners care about their property, which is one less thing to worry about! :) Good luck!</div>

Thank you so much. I actually found a venue today just as you described that has its own outside tent that stays up and fits up to 165 guests,works with many different caterers or you can bring in your own and the lawn looks amazing. I am waiting on them to get back to me with a price quote so I will keep you updated thanks again.
