downtown outdoor ceremony location? Please help!!

Hi ladies,
I'm from Ohio and planning a destination wedding in Charleston.  We are planning on doing the reception at the Country Club of Charleston but are looking for an outdoor ceremony location, preferably downtown.  Does anyone know of any downtown locations for an outdoor wedding ceremony that could accomodate up to 70 people?  We would really like to find a nice garden, maybe as part of a historic house.  There are number restrictions at Battery Park and Waterfront Park so neither of these will work.  We've looked into the lawn at the Palmer Home, which looks nice but it sounds like they still charge full price even if it rains.  Oh, we've also heard about Hampton Park or Sunrise Park (James Island).  Any thoughts on ceremonies here?
Thanks for all the help!
Jenny

Check the Wickliffe House. It's going to be difficult if you are not having the ceremony and reception in the same place, but the Wickliffe House has a nice front lawn for a ceremony. Also check the Mt. Pleasant Visitor's Center or Smythe Park on Daniel Island.

We are using the private garden at the Confederate Home on Broad Street.  They don't charge extra per say if it rains, however, there is a really nice indoor space you can use if there is bad weather, and the fee for that room is about $125 higher than the garden, so you will pay more if it rains.  BUT the best thing about the Confederate Home is that it is a non-profit organization, so your fee can be deducted from your taxes as a charitable contribution!  It is a really nice private garden space, and the added bonus of having an indoor option in case it rains sold us on it.  An elderly woman takes care of the office, so if you try to call and don't get an answer, just keep trying and eventually you'll get an answer.  They have really strange/limited office hours. Good luck!

Another thought would be the lawn of the William Aiken House downtown, too. It's on King Street and is beautiful. The lawn there could probably accommodate 70 people.

You should check out the Dock Street Theater.  It is off of King St. and has just been re-vamped and the best part is the cost....really really cheap, under $300 and in a beautiful courtyard with a very nice rain option.
