I am starting med school in Aug this year and will be away from my future fiance for about 20 months.

Med school is broken up 2+2 year and the 1st of those I will be abroad

I was thinking of proposing half-way between but then IDK what comes next :/

any ideas?  previous similar experiences?  TY!

    Your post is a little confusing, but my advice is to talk it over with your FF after you propose and figure out what will work best for both of you. Good luck!

    Talk to your girlfriend/boyfriend and see how they feel about a long (distance & time) engagement.

    But to answer your question "What comes next". It depends. I had a long engagement so I was engaged for awhile before I started planning. Others get engaged and start planning/booking things the next day.

    Once you get engaged

    1. Discussing budget. As in what can you two  afford. Do not assume anyone will offer to pay. And you can not ask for money.

    2. Discuss date/timeline.

    3. Discuss big picture ideas (black tie, backyard BBQ, Beach, etc.)

    4. Start booking things like venue, food, etc.

    My advice is; if you are moving abroad for medical school, proposing is the perfect jesture to your FF that you will alway be there and that you want to spend the rest of your life with her even though you are moving half way accross the world on a exciting career path.  In a womans persepective... this is very romantic. I am sure she would understand waiting until you are done with medical school to get married, but that is something to be discussed once you pop the question!! Good Luck
