Sue,

I'm motivated to make my own dress now, thank you.  Let's see how long this feeling will last, eh?  Here is my "dream" dress.  I like both the cut and the fabrication (love those bold colors!). 

Please forgive the hazy image ... My questions for you are these: (1) Have you seen a similar pattern?  (2) Have you seen similar fabric?

    PSA - sewingpatterns.com has all McCalls patterns for 99 cents today only.  Limit of 10.  Even with $11 shipping they're only $2 each, regularly $15 or more.

    Wow Lisa, I didn't know I'd initiate such passion in anyone, LOL.

    All the pattern companies have online sites. Vogue, Butterick & McCall's are all one now: http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/

    The Vogue patterns are $5.99 each now, and be sure to check out "vintage Vogue" which I love. Simplicity's website is www.simplicity.com

    Go to their website & click on evening or special occasion dresses. Can't say that I've seen anything like the picture you've posted, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. I haven't sewn clothing in a long time. (it actually reminds me a bit of my prom dress, which I made, LOL)

    Most of the major fabric stores (Joann's, Michael's, or any other in your area) have tons of knit prints, or chiffon prints similar to what you've posted.

    I'm not sure that I will go through with it, but I just might.  I certainly will start to check out patterns.  If I recall correctly, other than curtains, the last item of clothing I made was a "prom" dress -- either for a Christmas dance, concert choir performance or some other high school event.  Ha! 

    We'll see how motivated I am in a few months, eh?
