I am getting married May 4,2013 when should i start looking for my dress?

    It's never too early to start looking. A few of us have already purchased our dresses. Some designers take 6-9 months to come in, then you need to factor in time for alterations and fittings.

    I'm getting married on the same day : I started looking at the end of April I found my dress last Friday. I'm going to put the deposit down have my measurements taken tomorrow.

    I've scheduled my appts for first weekend in June ... The sooner the better from this point on as it takes time to order and for alterations. My only reason waiting this long my birth mother is flying in from out of town and this was best timing for her.

    I started looking back in March but that was because i was home for a weekend and my mom could go with me then.  I went a few more times in April/May cause my friends kept bugging me about it :) I'm glad I got it early though, cause I think that was one of the pieces I was more stressed about.  The other nice thing, is that is an item that could end up way over budget, so getting it helps with the rest.

    I looked in March not planning on buying anything and ended up falling in love with my dress. It already came in and is hanging in my closet :)

    I agree with PP that the earlier the better because of the time it takes to come in varies. I ordered mine from Alfred Angelo in January/February I can't remember and I just picked it up this past weekend, :)

    My appointments are set for MidJuly..I'm waiting because I already know what dress I want..I just pray it looks as good on me as it did on the model..who am I kidding..it will look GREAT on me..lol

    You could start looking whenever.  You should have at least 6-9 months because it takes a while to order a dress.   The first thing I did after I got engaged was a buy a dress Embarassed  I hadn't even picked a date yet! LOL

    My dress will take 5-7 months to come in, plus time for alterations. I'd say start looking as soon as possible. Some of the wedding timelines say 6 months before, but that is not enough time!

    It's fun too, so why wait? :)

    I agree its never too early. Were getting married end of May 2013 I have found mine and the lady told me she would call on the next sale. Def leave enough time for ordering and alterations :

    I'm so glad I read this! I'm also getting married May 4, 2013 and thought I'd wait until July or August to start looking (I want to lose some weight first).  But now I'm thinking I need to get cracking sooner!

    I am getting married on May 4, 2013 also and I got mine back in October/November. My mom, MOH, and I went to a bridal show/dress sale and I fell in love with one. I'd say tge sooner the better!

    I got engaged in November started shopping and ordering mine last week of April. My designer (Maggie) Takes 6-9 months and currently she is on back order. I would start now, but know some places come in sooner like Davids Bridal

    You can start looking whenever you like. I went for fun to look at dresses because I was really excited 4 months after I got engaged which was September and bought the dress the next day. Luckily I still love it.
