Honeymoon registry

Has anyone ever heard of something like this? When people ask where you're registered, you tell them the list of places and add that, if they'd like, they can contribute to your honeymoon financially. Does this sound familiar? Travel agent told me FI about this. I can't decide whether it's tacky or in poor etiquette. Any thoughts??

    The true HM registry haters haven't emerged yet, they get mean! If you decide to go with a HM registry (which I think are an awesome alternative to a traditional registry) check out honeyfund.com unless you are planning to have it through your travel agent.
    honeyfund doesnt' charge any fees so the money the guest chooses to give you is the money you get, they dont skim a % off of it.

    Um, wow. I never meant for this to get so snarky. Thanks for everyone's input, and let's stop posting back-and-forth opinions.

    My own thought is that registries themselves are fine, though I understand why people think they are rude. I for one am not asking ANYONE for a gift. If someone asks where I'm registered, I'll tell them (BB&B, Target, Lowe's). If my Aunt asks my where I'm registered so she can tell the people SHE'S inviting to the shower that SHE asked if she could host for me, I'll tell her. Besides, there's no rule that anyone has to even give a gift, let alone one from a registry (my friend buy's the couples whose weddings she goes to nice picture frames, albums for honeymoon pictures, and things like that).

    I think I agree with most people, the honeymoon registry seems tacky FOR ME. We have the resources to pay for it ourselves, though the buget is tight. I understand why others might want to set one up, though. I think the type where you basically create a "wishlist" of activities you'd want to do is ok. Then it works out the same way: someone asks where you're registered, and you include the website/travel agent/whatever in the list of places.

    I think wedding registry is an awesome idea and people who think its TACKY really need to look into what Tacky is!!!
