Anyone go to Costa Rica?

What hotels you stay at and what to do? Looking for a local travel agent to book our 1 yr anniversary trip? Thanks

Re: Anyone go to Costa Rica?

  • Any help on Costa Rica would be appreciated. Looking to stay somewhere for three nights and then two nights. Not sure where to stay and looking for rec's on what to do and where to avoid. Maybe even a local travel agent to help us book the trip. We are celebrating our 1 yr anniversary.
  • We are going in December on our honeymoon.
I'm not sure what time of year you are going, but there is a "green"/rainy season.  The amount of rain seems to depend upon the area.
From what I can tell, the roads aren't too great there and it takes a couple hours to drive from one location to another.  (Unless you choose to fly on a tiny plane.)  So if you rent a car, make sure it is a 4x4. The other option is to book transfers from location to another.  A travel agent should be able to do this for you.
You'll want to try and figure out what it is that you want to do while in Costa Rica.  Beach, volano, rain forest, cloud forest, etc.  This can help you narrow down what areas you might want to go to and hotels to consider.

We are going for 7 days.  We are flying into San Jose and out of Liberia.  (The two main airports in Costa Rica.)  We are spending four night in the Arenal Volcano area at Nayara Hotel.  We'll then head to the beach and spend three nights at the JW Marriott in Guanacaste.

I'd recommend using trip advisor to start your research, if you haven't already.
  • Did you book everything yourself? If not what travel agent did you use? Thanks
  • We booked some of the stuff ourselves and some through a travel agent.  We used Jayne at myhoneymoonplanner.com based on a recommedation from our friends.  We probably could have booked everything ourselves, but I wouldn't know where to start with how to book the private transfers from one location to another.
  • We will be honeymooning in Costa Rica, at the Four Seasons in the Papagayo peninsula... we'll be flying in and out of Liberia, which is ~45 minutes from the resort. We booked it ourselves, but we might have used a travel agent if we weren't going to a resort with concierge services.

TripAdvisor is a great suggestion, Molly - I use it for almost every trip I take!
