Having a friend marry you

Hi all,

Has anyone gone through the process of ordaining a friend to marry you instead of a JP (if your state allows it)?
If you have, would you do it again?
My mom thinks its totally odd, but she's also still not over the non-church service.

Any thoughts, suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

[QUOTE]Hi All, I have a seriouse concern about this. has anyone had a friend marry them in Connecticut?! My grandmother is convinced that an online ministry registration is not valid in the state. I think she is wrong does anyone have advice? thank you.

I know this is old but I just wanted to say in Connecticut a marriage where the person got ordained online IS NOT LEGAL. It has to be someone who has an actual ministry or had an actual ministry. This article explains it ok but you can also look at the statute itself. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/05/fashion/05marry.html?pagewanted=all
  • Please be careful having someone marry you who got ordained online. In a lot of states it has been ruled illegal and the marriage is void. This becomes an issue if you file married on your taxes, a spouse dies, or if you divorce (God forbid). It doesn't marry if you know tons of people who have done it. That would just mean none of those marriages are legal.

Please check your local laws first.
