J&K

Hey lady. I have an OCM question for you. Sorry if you're becoming sick of being the spokesperson! :-) I have pretty bad skin. I've had acne my whole life and after tons and tons of medication, daily pimples had gone away. I do have some bumps all over my forehead and although I don't know why or what they are, they are tiny and don't bother me too much. BUt with this baby, my skin has gotten bad again. I'm getting daily pimples again like I'm in middle school. I bought castor oil, sunflower oil, and tea tree oil. What proportions do you recommend? Do you think I should buy another oil for the acne or just stick with tea tree? I live in a tiny town so if I did need another oil, I'd have to order it online. Thanks :-)

Re: J&K

  • Nope, it's no problem.  I pushed it so hard for so long that I dug my own grave with the question answering ;)  But seriously, I love it so much that I"m more than happy to help!

I don't know much of anything about sunflower oil.  So I can't help much there!

Is your skin typically dry or prone to being flaky?  I'd start with about 50% castor oil, 50% sunflower, and then a few drops of Tea Tree.  Test a bit of TT first, some people are sensitive to it.  It can be drying, and the smell is strong.  You don't need much.  I also dilute it with water and use it a toner after oil cleansing, which I think helps the most.

If you notice you're dry or flaky, add a little more sunflower.  If you're too oily, add more castor.  If you wanted to try anything else, both jojoba and grapeseed are excellent for acne prone skin.  I use both in my mix.  I was using jojoba to moisturize, but I switched to the grapeseed with better results.  Now I use the coconut oil to moisturize and I love it.

    Did I answer your questions?

  • I'm not J, but the usual recommendation is 50/50 to start. If you have dryer skin, less Castor more whatever you're using (sunflower, jojoba- my favorite, grapeseed, EVOO, etc.)  If you have really oily skin, more Castor.  I do about 40% Castor and split the other 30% grapeseed/jojoba. I actually don't put any tea tree oil in it, but I did add witch hazel.

I DO use the tea tree oil for spot checks.  So I just do it full strength on a q-tip and dab the areas that have zits or are really bad. (my chin.)
  • orrr what J said. ;)

  • Thanks guys! My questions were answered. I have dry skin right after my shower but it does get oily throughout the day. I'll try 50/50 with a few drops of tea tree. Thanks again!
