As a Christian, this bugs the crap out of me - because it causes people to lump all believers into one bigoted group of jerkoffs.
I hate the link to the video that says the pastor believes it will "send a clear message." Yes, the message is clear: That you guys are a being a bunch of intolerant and ignorant pricks.
They're praying about whether or not to go through with it? I'm praying that God will show them why not to.
I read about this this morning. It shames me that people like this consider themselves to be patriotic Americans. I can't believe that the pastor completely disregarded the message from the government expressing concern that this event might cause retaliation towards our troops in the middle east. It just galls me that he is so inconsiderate of the lives of the troops who are still overseas or how this might negatively impact what fragile relationships we have with the countries there.

Extremists piss me off. It embarrasses me that these idiots live in my state.
The only thing that more severely pisses me off is this (not the guy throwing the pepper spray, cuz I kind of want to give him a pat on the back, but rather the idiots who celebrate at soldiers' funerals)::
What disgusts me (as a Christian--Catholic, specifically) is that this is so opposite of the type of life a Christian should live. It seems to me that those who parade around as "super Christian" or "super patriotic" are the ones who least understand what those labels mean.
I hate knowing that this is the message that American Christians send to the rest of the world.
I heard about this on BBC news, they were talking about protests in Iraq and messages from the government of Iran. One guy said basically I don't know why the American government doesn't just stop this. (paraphrased because I don't remember his exact wording.) Our federal government won't "just stop this", there'd be freedom of speach rallies all over, we'd be up in arms about that. I'm not saying the federal government should stop it. I wish that people would learn more about the impact of their ignorance, and care that their close-minded opinions are detrimental to our worldwide image.
The local government has denied the permit to hold a public bonfire, right? Or did I get misinformation about that.

It makes me angry that these people are so ignorant, and this is how we're represented to the world.
You'd think having General Petreas come forward and say that this act is likely to directly lead to American deaths would make these people hesitate. That it's likely to roll back the progress we've made in the Middle East. That it's undermining our public relations efforts to build our relationships with the governments.
The fact that a large amount of Americans believe all Muslims are terrorists is just disgusting. That people spout off such ignorance as "Islam is a violent religion" without fully knowing what they're talking about - Christianity is every bit as violent in its religious texts as Islam, it's all about how you interpret it. There are as many peaceful Muslims as there are Christians. And I dare say there are as many crazy Christians as there are Muslims - maybe they're not strapping themselves to explosive devices quite as often, but they're sometimes nearly as dangerous.

The majority is misguided idiots. it's analogous to shooting themselves in the foot without checking to see that the safety is off. There is no attempt to try to understand another's religious beliefs.

We don't talk about that part Shaye Or things like the Japanese confinement camps.
I guess in my mind these people are performing an act of terrorism. They are burning a religious text with the intent to enrage a certain religious and ethnic group and then when that group strikes back they will go "Oh look at the angry Arabs attacking us". They can't honestly think their actions will not cause a backlash.

Yes, that is always the part that is sadly overlooked. Which explains why I don't know much about that part of my ancestry. : )
I completely agree with you though. People make their own definitions of what things mean based upon how conveniently it fits into their lifestyle. This entire fiasco is just another example of that. I think it's human nature unfortunately.

That's true. I'm against the burning of the Quran and I don't think it's right just because of the extremist. That would be like burning the bible because what the christians did to the indians. I am not a religious person but for those who are their religious beliefs should be protected.
Pretty much. Pretty much every religion has persecuted/killed/wronged at some point in history, and been persecuted/killed/wronged too. It's up to us as individuals to move past it and accept that we are all people and there are good in bad with every group.

I just think it's absolutely hysterical that these folks are pretty much doing the same thing that the people they hate are, which is setting sh*t on fire because what it represents is evil and poisons it's society. Next thing they'll be shouting "Death to Islam" in the streets on the BBC.
If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat.
