Additional lighting? Is it even needed?

Hi all!

I'm trying to figure out whether or not this would be overkill. I'd love to add some string lights to our reception decor, preferably something like the first picture attached. Our venue (the barn at gibbet hill) is gorgeous by itself, and if I were to have additional lighting I'd want it to be something simple and elegant. We're having a winter wedding and would like the overhead lights to be dimmed and minimally lit (even moreso than in the second pic), and thought this would add a touch of cozyness. Thoughts??

In addition--even if I were to decide to move forward with something like this, I can't seem to find any vendors in New England that would do just string lights. Suggestions would be amazing! Thanks guys!

  • I love the picture with string lights, very cute! I believe some places that rent tents/chairs also have wedding lights available. Have you checked any of them out?

  • I've looked at most of the vendor websites that TK recommends listed for MA and none of them that I've seen have examples like this :( Most just include what they do for uplighting, etc. So any suggestions would be welcome!
  • Have you checked Taylor Rentals? I think that they do the rentals for my venue and they had paper lanterns and other lighting that I could add. Ask your venue if they have any preferred vendors. Or could you do it yourself?

  • My friend got married at Gibbet Hill, it is a gorgeous venue!  Personally, I don't think it even needs the string lights, it is already so beautiful.  So just wanted to say if you can save the money and spend it on your honeymoon instead, that's what I'd do!  :)
