Poll: Winter Wedding Food

What do you like being served at a winter wedding? Does a hot chocolate bar make your day? Do you crave a some kind of roast beast? How do you feel about weddings that serve traditional Christmas or Hanukkah food as their meal?

The hot chocolate bar would be amazing! If you want to go ahead and serve traditional holiday food, go ahead. It is your day! I feel like whatever it is, don't do "cold" appetizers like ceviche because it is cold out. Perhaps a roast beast with who-hash?

i love the feeling of winter, im not fussy on the types of food but i think they should be cosy, warming and filling/heavy.  The one thing i  think shouldnt be missed out from any winter event is mulled wine.  it just defines cosy winters and xmas for me, i love it.

Love the hot chocolate bar!  We're thinking of sending guests home with Christmas cookies as favors.

we are serving hot apple cider and cold apple cider with warm apple cider donuts as guests arrive ( love apples can u tell)  if you are considering doing a hot chocolate bar which i think is a great idea, consider usiing homemade marshmallows with the hot coco bar (like www.sweetlydias.com) this is where i got my marshmallows for our smore bar. they are the most delish thing ever, most so in hot coco! :)

I'm on board with a hot chocolate bar :-)

Roasts would be great for a winter wedding along with all the typical heavy/filling side dishes like mashed potatoes, casseroles etc.

Since my family is part Jewish, I'd totally dig latkes and matzo ball soup at a wedding!

Yay! I'm glad everyone is in favour of the hot chocolate bar, since we're having one in 10 weeks :)

We're also going to have coffee and flavoured syrups - hazelnut, caramel, vanilla, etc..

We're having a brunch, but because it's winter we're limiting cold/room temp foods to fruit and smoked salmon. The rest wil be waffles with hot fruit syrup, ham, quiche, etc. I'm having difficulty remembering the details at the moment since we chose the menu months ago. Guess I'd better review it..

A hot chocolate bar sounds amazing! Be sure to have some alcohol creamers to go with it though.. like baileys or godiva!

I'd be all over that hot chocolate bar!  I wish we could afford to do a coffee bar, but we're spending enough on the reception already.

If you do want homemade marshmallows, they're really easy to make yourself, they just require water, corn syrup, sugar, powdered sugar, a little butter for the pan, gelatin, and vanilla and about 30 minutes of your time with a stand mixer or hand mixer (stand mixer is preferable so you can walk away from them while they whip up). A whole pan costs well under $1 to make and they're delicious.  I make them every year.

I love making homemade marshmallows!   Last Christmas, I made cinnamon vanilla marshmallows (heavenly in hot chocolate).  For Easter, I made pink marshmallows scented with rosewater.

For our January wedding, we served roasted lamb and chicken with mushroom risotto and sauteed vegetables.  I wanted to do a pear and gorgonzola salad with an apple butter vinaigrette too, but I was overruled.  If you stick in those flavor profiles, you'll be fine.  Think gamey meats, creamy, root vegetables, mushrooms and citrus.

I think that the hot chocolate would be fun, but I honestly wonder how much of it would get consumed unless it was spiked.
