Invitations

Anyone order them locally in the Triad/Triangle (or even Charlotte, I won't leave y'all out)?  Where'd you get them?  Happy with the service you received?  Happy with the product?  Did you DIY at all?  Price per invite? PIP?

I had a dream that we got everything together but forgot to invite people.  So we just passed out flyers at the main intersection in town instead.  I guess that means my subconscious thinks I should start figuring out invitations.

I just got mine in from Hallmark.  I didn't know they did invitations until my mom called and said she had seen four or five big books in one of the stores.  I managed to get invitations/rec. cards/response cards/TY notes and lined inner envelopes for about the same price I would have spend doing it myself, I think.  And saved all the hassle and time!  The other nice thing was that they faxed proofs of the wording to the store within 2 days of my placing the order.  I approved the proofs Monday, and the whole order came in on Friday and they look great!  The invites they offer probably aren't as fancy as you would get elsewhere, but it worked for me!

EDIT -- I'll PM you what I spend on the total order if you want.

I'm leaning towards making mine, but Im inviting a very small number of guests.  I'm thinking I'll use 5x7 pocket envelopments.  I've used them in the past for other things and ordered them from this website. There are several wedding ideas on the site:

Or just google envelopment wedding invitations. Smile

    Beth,

Which Hallmark did you go to?  I'm not sure if all Hallmarks have invites - or at least I haven't seen them before.

    TIA!

Another site with more pretty samples. I like that everything is customizable with these (colors, envelope liner pattern, accent materials):

We actually made ours through Vista Prints.  They came out so beautiful.  Best part was that we got 70 wedding invites and 80 party invites for $65.00 including shipping.

Mary, your dream is so funny!  I haven't even thought about invitation because it's one thing I am not looking forward to.  I am not a big stationary fan, and I think the cost of invitation is ridiculous (it's paper)  so I am not to much help with this, but I can tell you that my friend also used Hallmark and she was very happy with how they turned out.

My wedding shower invitations were from Wedding Paper Divas and they were gorgeous. I got mine from Allison Barnhill Designs (she is based out of MD but we did everything via email) and my expectations were beyond exceeded.

I am DIYing mine and having them printed at a local printer in Raleigh.  I had the mock-up printed at Kinko's and it didn't cost as much as I was expecting but I still need to call some other places and do some price checks.  I also need to decide what to do about envelopes.  I'll probably check out places like Paper Town once I'm back in the US this summer.

I don't have a picture of the actual mock-up because FI fails at photography lol but this is the image file that I designed.

Imagine that the white circle and blue circle are two separate pieces of cardstock.  They will be connected together with a brad in the center where the red dot it.  Then people can spin around the inner circle to see the information printed on the white circle.

We got the invitation kits from Michaels (DH and I would go in and each of us get 1 box with a 40-50% off coupon) and printed on our own printer.  I was going to completely DIY but we found a kit in the style we wanted with the right colors AND the kits came out to be cheaper (paper is expensive!).  And we got so many compliments on the invitations!

Edit: There are pictures in the Paper Stuff photogallery in my planning bio.

I actually love stationary, I have a lot of notecards just because I think they're great and I like to send and receive mail.  Some of my friends and I still send eachother snail-mail letters, just because we like it.

I'm leaning towards DIYing mine too, I've thought about ordering materials from cards and pockets and either using their print shop or having something printed locally.  I don't think I want to mess with printing and cutting myself, I think the cutting would drive me crazy.  But then I think about how many I'll have to do and I get intimidated.

Thanks for the suggestions so far :)

I've had such a hard time with invitations....

I have such a hard time paying $300 for paper that most people are going to throw away after the wedding! I'm doing a DIY from Michael's...I'm using the basic one with the swirls around the side with the blank page...I hope they don't look cheap! =(

I've decided to just not worry about it...if my guests think my wedding is going to be cheesy and cheap because I didn't have big froo-froo invitations I can't help it...I don't have time to worry about it.

Good luck finding something that fits what you're looking for!

Care to share where you got your supplies?  What your design is? etc.

They are VERY simple in comparison to the other girls that have posted theirs on here before!  We bought the box sets from Michaels, picked a pretty, free font from dafont.com and then just printed our message on them from our home printer.  Then, I bought some vellum to put on top of them...I made a monogram in our wedding colors and then attached it with a pretty brad that I also purchased from Michael's.  I didn't want to put a lot of money into the invites, and this was the cheapest route for me.  I only spent about $60 for 150 invitations...which comes out to about $0.40 each.  I will try to post a picture of them when I get home tonight.  I really like them...they turned out better than I had expected them, too, but I never really put a lot of thought into the invites, so it didn't really matter to me about them.

We got ours on zazzle.com through one of their graphic artists.  http://www.zazzle.com/orange_black_flower_wedding_invitation-161142599008207539
We ordered back in April and I had a coupon code (and I think they must have been cheaper than they are currently listed on the website).  We got 100 invites for $58.00 and we did the RSVP postcards free from Vista Print.  The artist who designed the invite was super nice and I e-mailed back and forth with her and she was able to change some of the colors for me for no extra charge.

I'm glad to hear you had good experience with zazzle.  They seem to have mixed reviewes so I've been a little wary.  I'll have to look at them again.
  • edited December 2011
I agree about reading the mixed reviews...the zazzle site was a little daunting at first when I was skimming through soooo many designs.  It got easier when I had the e-mail chats with the specific artist.  Good luck in your search!

Check out the places online. I'm getting mine thru TheAmericanWedding.com The samples are free - I ordered a bunch haha. And the prices are reasonable. They even type your envelopes with your return address for no extra cost. Hope this helps! Good luck.

I DIYed mine (see bio) and used cardsandpockets to print them. I am really happy with them and the price as well. Cardsandpockets has pocketfolds and everything if you don't want to completely DIY.

I ordered the pocket from paperandmore.com.

Got all the paper and envelopes on there for a discount price (it was being discontinued), except for the pockets of course.

My mom printed them at her office for free.

We spent between $200-$275 for 100 invites including 2 stamps for each.  Not bad and the cutting gets to be a pattern. Once you get started, it goes fast.  But I also wish we had just ordered them.  Its sort of a love/hate relationship.  Wink

I DIY'd mine with a kit from Michaels. They were so easy to print at home and then I added an extra ribbon to give it some color. We also did an embossed stamp at the bottom.

Mary I too have been thinking a lot about paper too! Save the dates to be specific but also invites always come to mind when I think about save the dates.  This week I am going to talk to Thomas' old friend/mentor/old babysitter about what she is thinking for our stationary.  She designs her own cards like for Christmas and stuff--super cute-- and knows a printer.  I hope this doesn't run too expensive for us but I will see.

I also spent way to long in Hallmark looking over invites...thats where I fell in love with pocket folds!! I looked online -mygatsby-to order and that was way over my head with all the tech words used.  I'm not very creative but my friends made their own desgin and printed at staples bought a paper cutter and did every DIY...so did my cuz-well his mother did them she is creative!  Both bought paper at Michaels that was plain!
