Barbeque Type Reception

Hi there! So I am getting married in September. Our ceremony will take place behind an old barn (its beautiful) and reception will be under a big white tent close by. I am wanting to have a bbq type feel for reception food but dont know how to pull it off without looking too "backwoods". haha! Any ideas? Help!!

  • I'm having a tent wedding as well witha  BBQ buffet.  The caterers we decided to go with have various type of buffets and this is one of them, with numerous options of what you would like to serve (steak, chicken, salmon, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.)..  along with salads, sides and condiments.
You should explorer the caterers in your area and see if they offer something like this.

  • Avoid using flannel and you'll be fine :)

Have some table cloths, pretty centerpieces and hang a few lanterns.  That won't look back woods.  https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&biw=1920&bih=940&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=barn+wedding&oq=barn+wedding&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=37316l38713l0l38922l12l12l0l5l5l0l164l599l4.3l7l0

  • I too am being married in September and having a BBQ.  We have a caterer and they are fixing pulled pork, BBQ chicken, beans, slaw, fritters, etc.  I am having gingham check table cloths with tall tin buckets of sunflowers for decorations.

<div>Exactly, how you serve it is more important than what it is.  Have nice linens and tablesettings and you'll be fine.</div>

This is exactly what we're doing.  Our reception is under a white tent, we are going to string lights in a swag design from the top.  We're having round tables with white cloths and purple satin runners.  The centerpieces will be a mix of lantern and flowers.
It can be done without looking too "country", just think about bringing the indoors outside.

  • Check out my pinterest board.  This fits our feel, and I don't feel backwoods about it at all.
And I've seen some backwoods stuff.  (beerpong at a wedding?!  Who does that?!)

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • Lots of the caterers I've talked to do Bbqs. But they are lux Bbqs. It more or less means that they serve a big buffet with lots of grilled meat and fish. But it's not like there will be smoking grills all over, and paper table clothes etc. they just make it look fab. Talk to diff caterers and see what they can provide you.
