What TIME should i put in the invite

I am finalizing my invites and I'm trying to find the write way to write the reception time in the invite envellop insert.

we are getting married at 2 - dismissial by 3

pictures and bar hopping from 3-5:30-6ish

we hope to be announced into the hall around 6 and eat dinner around 6:30,

BUT i have heard stories if you put recpetion at 6 then people will show up at 6 and then they will be there too late for the annoucement....

We will have the hall open at 4ish should I put cocktails and orderves from 4-6????
HELP

I orginally had dinner served AFTER 5:30.... but now i'm not sure if that is good...
SUDGESTIONS!

Re: What TIME should i put in the invite

  • Ditto PP. Put the time your cocktail hour starts. You do need to close shorten the cocktail hour just a little. I would say 4-5:30 with dinner at 6:00.

<div>Wait, what?  You are going bar hopping between the ceremony and reception?  </div><div>
</div><div>I certainly hope you are taking your guests.  If not, holy rude!</div>
  • Your timeline is skewed.

If your ceremony is from 2-3 pm, then you determine how much travel time is involved from ceremony venue to reception venue, and that's the start time for your cocktail hour.  Example:

    Ceremony 2:00-3:00 pm.
    Travel time:  20 minutes
    Cocktail Hour:  3:30-4:30 pm.
Introductions and start of reception: 4:30 pm

What are your guests to do from 3-4 pm?

And then I agree with pp, it's called a cocktail HOUR, not cocktail HourS.

Please rethink your schedule.  Oh, and do your "bar hopping" after the regular reception ends.  Have an after party where you do your bar hopping.  Making your guests wait around so that you can go bar-hopping is just rude.

But a big old good luck to you.

  •  Trust me I love to bar hop, but I do not get bar hopping in the middle of your events.  That is just weird to me.  Save bar hopping for after the reception is over.

Anyway, the cocktail hour(s) is part of the reception, so when that begins is the time you put on the invite.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
