Possibly changing my whole wedding reception in 44 days! (PIP's added)

So as most of you know from the WTF Wednesday post, my FI and I are really struggling financially right now. So I went to my parents house last night to go over the budget and we're still way over even though I've cut everything down drastically. So I proceeded to have a melt down and cry and say fine we'll cancel the wedding. Then my sister started talking about having our reception other places and having someone cater in the food and we can borrow the tables from my SIL's family, and I'm completely against it, then it somehow got turned to having the reception at my parents house, and the more we're talking the more I'm liking the idea.

My parents have a huge house and beautiful huge yard with a nice view and growing up I used to play weddings there and dream about having my reception there, so it's sort of been my dream all along, I just didn't think it was feasible. So we're going to contact my BIL's stepfather that does catering and see if he can do it, and if not we're going to contact my SIL and see if some of the women from her church that catered her and my brothers wedding can cater.

So now we might have the "dream" wedding still, and possibly be able to go on our honeymoon as well. We still have to crunch numbers and see if we can get the tables and caterer and if so we're a go. :)

  • I hope everything works out ok!! have you sent out your invitations yet?? my only concern is making sure your guests are aware of location/time/etc. changes that you might do in the next couple of weeks. Having a reception in a gorgeous backyard sounds like a great plan, though!!

Honestly, some of the best wedding food I have EVER had was comford food catered by a family friend for a wedding I went to a few years ago. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fried biscuits, sweet potatoes...it was awesome. Just goes to show that sometimes home cooking is the best way to go. I am sure guests will love it if you are able to do something similar!
  • Fingers crossed for you!  I really hope it all works out.  Sounds like a really practical solution for your tight budget.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress  :)

  • Thanks everyone. I'm just hoping that we can get the guy to do the catering and the tables and everything. We're also going to have to work our butts off for the next month painting and fixing the gardens up and everything because my parents haven't gotten to that yet this spring. Plus we're going to get white Christmas lights and string them all around for a really nice romantic look like I kept pinning to my Pinterest and wanted! We'll probably print some things up from VP to send out to notify people of the venue change and put an insert in our wedding day programs too so that people are aware. Most of my family already know the way to my parents house though, it's just my FI's family that won't know the way but we'll give them directions and everything.

  • Yay! I would totally do something similar if I knew someone with a house that could accommodate a wedding. Sounds like it will be great :)

  • Here are a couple of pictures of the house and view. They were taken in the fall so the trees are all bare and the plants are dead, but they'll all be blooming and pretty in July.

This is another of the view one morning at sunrise. The hills looked like they were on fire.
