Hiring a WC

Hi ladies I have a question for ya. How much did you talk to your WC before you had to sign a contract and pay a deposit for their services?  I've started talking to a few coordinators and one of them sent me a rough estimate along with a contract... does that mean I have to hire her if I have more questions? TIA

What kind of questions are you hoping to ask? If they're vendor related, then I don't think she's obligated to answer. But if you're asking about her business or your relationship with her, then you should ask away.

Frankly, I'd ask the questions first and worry about the contract second.

well she gave me an estimate but I still have lots of questions about other possible venues and things like that because the estimate was lots higher than I had expected and I want to know that making the wedding fit my budget is doable with her before I sign a contract

Well, another option is to let her know your budget and to ask her what she could do within it. How much research have you done on your own for venues? Do you need a coordinator to book your venue? If not, then you've got enough time to sort it all out on your own. Which island are you getting married on?

Remeber: asking questions doesn't obligate you to sign a contract!

I interviewed a lot of coordinators prior to signing with one. Many of them sent a contract along with their first quote but I obviously just signed with the one I wanted. You only have to go with a coordinator after you sign the contract and submit a deposit, or at least that is my belief.

We hired our WC from Hawaii Weddings and Events for full service planning, so it may be different if you don't need that much help.   On their website it said they offered one free initial consultation to determine what services best suited our needs, but she did give us some suggested venues based on our budget which we followed up on our own prior to booking her.    We had one more teleconference call so that my FI could also ask questions before we asked for a contract.      Good luck!

Ditto Kaesha - you should feel free to ask away.  If the WC doesn't want to answer because she's starting to feel that to answer would be basically coordinating your wedding, then she can say that.  I haven't had anyone say that to me, and I ask a lot of questions (lots).

You're not obligated until you sign the contract, but many of the WCs will ask you to do a tentative reservation of your date, and while once you've done a tentative reservation with a vendor you can still back out up until the contract is signed, I would try to avoid backing out on them like that if you can (just because I think it's more respectful of their time not to waste it).
