Engagement Party Favors

I'm throwing an engagement party for our families to meet (since they haven't yet) and am looking into small party favors. We haven't chosen an EXACT date yet for our wedding but know the month and year, so I'm wondering what I should put on the favors (I know usually our names and the wedding date goes on them.) Should I:

1. Just put our names, no date.

2. Put our names, and the date of the engagement party (not sure if that might confuse guests though)

3. Put our names, and just the month and date of our wedding- no date.

First, it's poor etiquette to throw an eparty for yourself.
Second, skip the favors and save the money towards the wedding.  People don't need any trinkets from an eparty.

It considered poor form to throw your own engagement party(bach. part, shower).
Don't do favors.  They are an extreme waste of money, even at the wedding.  The free food and liquor is the thank you to your guests.  Nobody wants a trinket with your names and wedding date on it.

Why don't you have a BBQ over the 4th and celebrate the holiday with both families?  Don't bill it as an engagement party.

  • what would the favors be? i agree that nobody will really want a trinket with your name and wedding date on it! just save your money! :)

    This.
  • I say if you want to throw your own party for the families to meet... do it. Not everyone will agree with it. Each situation will be different. If this is widely accepted amongst your family and friends, do what makes you happy. We are!!! The party is at my Mom's house and while we do not have a date for our wedding yet, we are doing fans (the party is outside in July) with our names and the date we got engaged on them. Another option we looked at was our names and the nautical coordinates of the beach in Costa Rica where we were engaged.

The reason we used our engagement date was because it was a party to celebrate our engagement when the wedding comes, then we will use the wedding date if need be.

I'm not touting anything I have said here as "ettiquitely" correct.... Im just saying what My FI and family have chosen to do in our particular situation.
