I wanted FI to take care of all the honeymoon stuff, but for some reason I ended up researching for car rentals. We're going to Banff, Canada, flying in to the Calgary airport and driving about an hour to Banff.
I don't rent a lot of cars, but prices seemed outrageous! I called and asked them if they could explain some of the $150 fees that they charge. The only explanation they could give was that they're "airport" fees. I got on the airport's website and found out they have a limited stop bus that runs between the airport and downtown - and one of the stops has tons of car rental places around it. To rent from the same company at their downtown location is almost half the price - the per day cost is lower as well as only $30 in taxes. It might be a slight pain to deal with luggage on the bus....but at half price, I think we can deal. And we can drop off at the airport.
It seems like such a scam that the same company charges so much more because they know people coming off planes will need cars and will probably not check around to see there are cheaper options.
