Date/Location problem

Hi all,  So I just got engaged this week and we would like to have a Oct 2011wedding at Green Gables in Jennerstown. Problem is they are fully booked sept-oct on all saturdays.  So our choices are either we get married at the location we want but it will be on a Friday or we have to find another location (we have looked and cant find one that meets exactly what we were looking for like GG does)  Suggestions?? Is it bad to do it on a Friday?

It seems to be becoming more popular to have a wedding on a friday eveing or a sunday arternoon.  The unfortunate thing about planning a wedding for 7 months from now is you will have less vendors at your service because others may have already booked them.  It can definitely be done though, to get all the vendors you need lined up, you just may not have your first pick of them all.

Also, you'll need to be considerate of any OOT guests with transportation issues, working (or needing to request friday or monday off, as you choose your day of the week).  If you do decide to do a friday or sunday wedding, I would think about getting save the dates out very soon, so that people can plan accordingly.

Likewise, I would pick a date soon & get calling to vendors so that you aren't left with your absolute last choice.

Just curious, is this venue in PA or closer to DC or maryland?  (you're on the central PA board, but have your area listed at DC)...just curious because I've never heard of Jennerstown, however I am in East central PA.

These boards are a great resource if you need suggestions or have a sticky situation to run by others or get a general public consensus on how people would feel about certain things.

I am having my wedding on a friday night at 6pm so that it shouldn't conflict with our guests and working at that time.  We did send out the save the dates awhile ago (we will almost be engaged for 2 yrs by the time we say the I Do's). Things also do tend to run cheaper on a friday so that was one of our reasons for doing it that day vs saturday.

ah, ok.  I didn't realize you had been engaged for that long (your original post said this past week), but I understand what you mean/are doing I think.

We've been engaged since Dec 2008 now, but waiting until Scott finishes school in June & be able to get a real job, so we're able to start booking things & finally set a date.

Anyways, Friday at 6 should work.  Especially if people knew the time/date for awhile, that's up to them to make the appropriate arrangements to make it.  And doing an off-regular day is an ingenius way to save money.  I'm doing sometime in winter, for the same reason.  :-)

It'll be here before you know it!!!

You could try the ligonier country inn too. It is also very charming. There is also Seton Hill University in Greensburg, and St. Vincent University in latrobe.

i'm having my wedding on a friday! i have a lot of out of state and out of country  guests so they will be taking off work regardless of which day of the week we get married. fridays and sundays are nice actually because a lot of vendors provide discounts for these days. we are saving $3,000 on our venue alone for having a friday wedding. congrats and good luck!
