Mount Harmon review

Ok ladies! The FI and I went to see Mount Harmon Plantation on Saturday. Here are my thoughts.

The location is neat but about 45 mins away. The road going into the plantation is almost 2 miles and it is a one car dirt gravel road with trees on each side. It was like stepping back in time. Loved that for about the first mile! lol.

The house itself was really cute. The property is huuuuuuuge!!! The woman Phyllis is very nice. It's not as close to the water as I had hoped due to trees lining the banks, etc. but you can see the water.

Pros -
*The property would be perfect for my "southern belle" theme
*You can choose the setup of ceremony - reception
*Guests can have a tour of the house

Cons-
*It's probably the case with alot of places - but they added an extra $1000 for a security deposit which would be returned 3 weeks after the reception. That's really not in my budget.
*There is NO backup rain plan - everything must be held outside
*Worried about the drive home for my guests considering how far it is

So... This is the first place i've looked. More to come. The Grand Opera House had to reschedule with me AGAIN! I'm starting to get frustrated with that place - which just happens to be the place i'm extremely interested to see.

I'm actually having my wedding at Mount Harmon.  I agree with everything you say, but we are going to have some sort of transportation for guests from the hotel to Mount Harmon since it is such a far drive.

Phyllis is very nice, but I don't know how fresh and current her ideas are...which is why I am there!!  I know what I want so I'm not really worried.

Message me if you have any questions.

That's a great idea about having transportation for the guest.. I can't believe I didn't think about that!! I really enjoyed visiting there!! Did she let you drive down to see the tobacco house?? haha OMG the FI and I had an adventure!! She told us to go down this makeshift road and down by the river there would be the tobacco house and that we should check it out. We drove and drove and drove until we ended up in the backyard of the house!! haha. So we had to turn around and go all the way back. We finally found where we should have stopped the first time. We got out and walked which would have been really nice except it was 100 degrees out!

OMG!!  The same thing happened to us!!!  We were driving forever and it was of course on a blistering hot day.  It was rediculous!!  I kept yelling at FI for driving in the field and not on the path.  We were laughing so hard!

I checked out Mount Harmon for my ceremony but I really wanted to be closer to the water. I loved the drive and the property was beautiful but it just didn't serve my purpose. I'm sure its beautiful backdrop for pictures.
