Registering for gifts

Is registering at 7 stores being greedy, should I keep it to 2 or 3? I am having approx. 230 guests and would like to register at: Boston Store, Target, Pottery Barn, Menards, Kohls, Williams Sonoma and Crate and Barrel.

7 might be over-kill.  Your registries get passed around via word of mouth (nothing else) and to have people try an remember all that could be a nightmare.

I would narrow it down to different types of store and what you can register for at each.  Target and Kohls for example have some of the same merchandise on their shelves.  Can you get away just registering at one vs both?

FWIW - we invited 350 and registered at 2 places.

A lot of people will give cash that you can put towards the items at the stores that you did not register at.

Martha Stewart Weddings says no more than 3 places is appropriate.

Agreed. We are inviting around 325 and only registering at 3 places: Target, Macy's and Crate & Barrel

I wouldn't register at more than 3 places.  I'd suggest only registering for things you really need at those three places and then when those are all  completed, people will mostly likely just give you cash that you can spend wherever you would like.

Thanks all! Boston Store, Kohls and Potery Barn have been decided on. Although I had to promise my FI he could take $150 for a man spree at Menards. lol

Good call!  Haha, and if you don't own a house yet, as soon as you do you might find yourself right there with him on that Menards spree - I think I spent more money at Menard / Home Depot than my DH has <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif" border="0" alt="Surprised" title="Surprised" />

If it's not too late, can you swap out Kohls for Sears?  We registered at Sears so my husband could get the tools/outdoorsy stuff he wanted, and they still have a really nice 'home' section too for kitchen/bed/bath stuff.  We think it was a nice compromise, plus you still have boston store and pottery barn (which just happen to be the other two that we registered at!)
