Hey ladies, I need some help!!
I just got married last weekend (whoo!) and now we are at the fun part of changing names and such. I was able to change my SS no problem, but here's where it gets fun.
My Husband is a resident of a different state than i am. He is using his parent's address as his "home of record" because he was still living with them when he left for the military. He is now based oversees in Europe for the next two years and I am going with him. He has been there for 2 years. I went into the DMV to get a state ID and they refused to give me one b/c I didn't have "proof of residency" (Apparently getting married isn't proof enough.) They wanted bills in my new name sent to his house. Well, he & I are leaving Monday June 14 to head back to base, and obviously, we can't get bills sent to his house that quickly.
What i need to know is:
1) Do I HAVE to have an ID in my married name right now?
2) Do I HAVE to change my driver's license to the state where my husband lives in?
3) Will I be able to get my military ID in my married name when I get on base even if I don't have an ID in my married name stateside?
4) Does my license become invalid because the name doesn't match my SS?
5) Am I allowed to have a state ID in one state and a driver's license in a different state?
6) Why is this so hard?!
7) Is there any other information that I need to know when it comes to the paperwork involved for IDs, licenses, and getting on the military orders?
Thanks ladies! I know I am not the only one, I jsut wish there was somebody you could ASK these questions to! The people at the DMV just blinked at us...
