    BEFORE

    1. How long did it really take you and your bridesmaids to finish getting ready?

Only the other bride and I got our hair or make-up done.  It was about an hour for each of us.  The MOH (our only female attendant) was getting ready on her own at the same time.

    2. Did your wedding party follow your timeline pretty well, or did your group end up falling behind?

The only delay we had was that the hair and make-up person got stuck in traffic, and arrived about a half hour late, which pushed the ceremony back by half an hour.

    3. What’s something you spent too much/too little money on?

Too much on the officiant.  Unfortunately, we were having to find a rabbi that would to an interfaith ceremony in a state eight hours away from us, which was definitely a challenge.

    4. What is one detail that you sort of overlooked that you wish you had paid more attention to? What is something that you put tons of effort into that ended up being mostly unnoticed?

The pen we were supposed to use to sign the ketubah got put aside, so we had to ask a guest for the pen in the middle of the ceremony.  The biggest waste of time was the menus for the buffet table.  The menu kept changing, so they were obsolete.

    DURING

    5. What was a small detail from you wedding that really had guests "oohing and ahhing"?

Use of the artwork from the ketubah on all our paper goods.

    6. Did you or your FI drink too much/too little/just right/not at all?

    About right.

    7. Was there a piece of music that surprised you as a hit at the reception? What were the guest favorites?

There weren't a lot of surprises on that.  Many of the guests were already quite familiar with this musician.

    8. Best compliment you got from a guest?

"If you put out a blanket on a piece of concrete and invited your friends to be there to celebrate your wedding, they would all be there and glad to do it."

    9. If you didn't have a DOC, did you have much to worry about that day?

There were a few things--like cake decoration--that got a bit rushed at the end.  However, I'm still glad we didn't have a DOC.  A lot of the people helping were friends rather than vendors.  We ended up feeling very loved by our friends.

    AFTER

    10. What was the best part about your big day?

Finally being able to get married, after nine years together.  The sense of having a supportive community around us.

    11. What was something you were really stressing out about but turned out to be not a big deal/totally fine?  What is something that ended up being a waste of time or money?

The same thing, really.  The printer for our fauxtobooth malfunctioned.  Everyone was still happy to have pictures taken, and to download them later.

    12. What time did you end up leaving the reception?

We stayed until the end, then stayed a couple more hours to clean up.

    13. What is the most important/first thing you did/needed to do once all of the wedding craziness subsided?

Sell off all the lighting, linens, decorations, etc. we had bought for the wedding.

    14. Who was your favorite vendor now that the wedding is done?

It's really hard to come up with a "favorite" vendor.  How do you compare a bridal salon and a florist, for example?

    15. What was one highlight from the big day that will remain in your memory every time you think back on your wedding day?

That would probably be the whipped cream fight at the luncheon, in the private dining room of Legal Sea Foods.

    BONUS

    16. Where did you go for your wedding night?

We had rented a big old Victorian house for all of the guests at our wedding.  We had a private unit for us in that house, and that is where we stayed the night before and the wedding night.

    17. How long did it take you or your FI to get all of the pins out of your hair on the wedding night?

Not long at all.  Then again, I didn't grow my hair or have it put up for the wedding.

    18. What is one piece of advice you would offer to a bride on her wedding day?

Assume that at least five things will go wrong that day.  That way, when one of them happens you can say to yourself, "That's one of them out of the way," instead of going into a panic.

I know this is pretty late but here's my info:

    1. How long did it really take you and your bridesmaids to finish getting ready? There were 7 of us and for hair, makeup and getting dressed for everyone took 5 hours.

    2. Did your wedding party follow your timeline pretty well, or did your group end up falling behind?  The timeline was followed by everyone (vendors and bridal party)

    3. What’s something you spent too much/too little money on? I would say too much on the minister but we didn't have too many options.

    4. What is one detail that you sort of overlooked that you wish you had paid more attention to? What is something that you put tons of effort into that ended up being mostly unnoticed?  I put a lot of effort into our programs and made enough for every guest and when I saw a lot left over it meant that not everyone took one.  I would say to have someone (usher/someone) pass them out as people arrive.  I just had them on a table right next to the entrance.

    DURING

    5. What was a small detail from you wedding that really had guests "oohing and ahhing"?  The favor cards (apparently outside of the wedding world - everyone thinks you still get an actual favor and we decided on a donation instead - everyone loved that idea).

    6. Did you or your FI drink too much/too little/just right/not at all?  I don't think I even finished one glass of wine (in between courses we visited the tables so it wouldn't take all night visiting everyone) I think he had a glass or two and then we drank in our hotel room afterwards!

    7. Was there a piece of music that surprised you as a hit at the reception? What were the guest favorites?  We danced non-stop (Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, Black Eyed Peas, all the latest hits) The favorite was Telephone but probably because my Dad requested it and danced in the middle of the dance circle to it!

    8. Best compliment you got from a guest?  They were honored to be invited.

    9. If you didn't have a DOC, did you have much to worry about that day?  I am an over organizer so I had a timeline for everything and everyone had one.  I confirmed with each vendor the week of the wedding about details and I had someone at the hotel (where my reception was) to show the vendors where to set up.  Everything went smoothly and on time.

    AFTER

    10. What was the best part about your big day?  Everything!  There wasn't one thing I didn't enjoy.  I also loved having a relaxing morning to get ready with my BMs.

    11. What was something you were really stressing out about but turned out to be not a big deal/totally fine?  What is something that ended up being a waste of time or money?  I stressed about the vendors showing up on time and with the right items - everything was fine.  I made driving maps for everyone from the hotel to the church and back (only cost was for the paper) and it turns out everyone cabbed.

    12. What time did you end up leaving the reception? When it was over (we were the last ones) at midnight.

    13. What is the most important/first thing you did/needed to do once all of the wedding craziness subsided?  Immediately after I was so hot after dancing all night and although I loved my dress - I couldn't wait to get it off and take a shower!  Once we got back from the honeymoon I sent out the thank you cards within the first week we were back.

    14. Who was your favorite vendor now that the wedding is done  photographer - Kelsey Thompson!  I couldn't have asked for better photos or a better person to be with us all day!

    15. What was one highlight from the big day that will remain in your memory every time you think back on your wedding day?  So hard to pick one - so I'll pick 3: 1. walking down in the lobby and everyone seeing me in my dress for the first time.  2.  Looking at my FI during our ceremony and laughing at each other 3.  Our first dance - we were so nervous with everyone looking at us we were telling jokes.

    BONUS

    16. Where did you go for your wedding night?  Our reception was at a hotel and we had the suite for the night.

    17. How long did it take you or your FI to get all of the pins out of your hair on the wedding night?  I did it myself and it took probably 15 minutes.

    18. What is one piece of advice you would offer to a bride on her wedding day?  To be calm and enjoy everything - it really does go by fast but the more calm you are the more you can enjoy it.  I also told my BMs to not cry (at least while I wasn't looking) and to not ask me how I'm doing a thousand times.  I wanted it to be as normal as possible to keep me calm and they did a great job of that.

Be sure to stand up straight as you can, with shoulders back, especially if you have a strapless dress.  Pimples can be airbrushed out, poor posture can't be fixed in post production.  It makes a HUGE difference in your photos, trust me.

Also, while it is important to take time to say hi to guests, don't let this become the only thing you do at your wedding.  Dance, eat your food, enjoy time with your new husband!
