Soldering Rings

I posted this earlier, but apparently TK ate the original post. So I'm sorry if it appears again later!!!

Are you planning on soldering your wedding band & e-ring? If so, when are you planning on doing it? I would like to do mine before the wedding, but then that would mean not being able to wear my ring until the wedding! We probably will do it after we get back from our honeymoon.

Re: Soldering Rings

  • My friend just did this and is really happy with it.  She said her jeweler did it so it's not permanent and can be removed in the future if she wanted it.  I think it's a good idea because I have 2 wedding bands that will go with my e-ring and I imagine they will slide around a lot..... I'll probably have it done after the honeymoon, as well, if I do it .

  • I don't think that I am going to because I am having my wedding bands sized up 1 size from my engagement ring so when I get pregnant and swell I can still wear my wedding band alone.  Maybe once we are done having a kids I will.

  • i will not be soldering at all. i would like to have the option of only wearing my wedding band sometimes.  i would not feel comfortable wearing my big engagement ring on some international trips, and sometimes i take my e-ring off for lifting weights, etc., and would like to still be able to wear a band.  also, i will be having my ring re-dipped, cleaned, examined, etc. every year, and this takes a few days, so it will be nice to still be able to wear my band when my e-ring is in the shop. i also don't think it would work to have mine done because i have a split shank in my e-ring and my band doesn't fit flush against it anyway.

one of my good friends had this done to her though, and she love it! she says it keeps her rings from sliding around.
  • I personally don't want it done. I am a nurse so I like the option of not having to wear my engAgement ring. When I have seen it done I just don't like the looks. Depending on the jeweler it can look like 1 ring if they do it incorrectly. We would also like to upgrade the stone further down the road and have the option to resize
  • I am not doing this either.  I am going to just be wearing my wedding ring after the wedding so the engagement ring will just be for special occasions.
  • I am having it done, probably after the honeymoon.  My e-ring has a pear shaped diamond, so I had to find a band that will fit against that.  I also have some antiquing on my e-ring and my jewler suggested soldering so that the bands don't keep rubbing against each other.

I also have 2 bands to go with it so I will be soldering them together a week or two before the wedding.

If you don't mind me asking why wouldn't you want to wear your e-ring all of the time?

  • Im definitely soldering mine together. My e-ring is slightly too big, especially during the winter, and it slides everywhere. 2 rings sliding would be too much. We have the warranty on my rings that covers resizing, so im not worried about it getting too small when im pregnant, which i dont think will really happen anyway.
My band sits a little higher than the average band to sit at the same height to the ring, so it wont look bad soldered together.

  • Yes I am...kinda have to since I went with an enhancer! In love with it...I would even if it weren't an enhancer....I would have it done before the wedding so I don't have to be without after the wedding
  • I am having it done before the wedding. FI is also engraving my band before the wedding so he is just going to send it all off together.

I don't like how the rings could turn and not fit perfectly together so I for sure want it done. :)

I got a Swarovski engagement ring.  It's pretty and no one can tell the difference but it's not made for long-term wearing. I didn't see the point in the expense and so I put that money towards a diamond wedding band instead.  Plus, I am already worried about losing 1 ring so to have to worry about 2 all the time would probably make me crazy.
  • I also went with an enhancer for my wedding band so will definitely be getting it soldered together. I plan on doing it after we get back from the honeymoon.

  • I will have them soldered together before the wedding. We got the rings directly from the jeweler so the price was much better and so is the service. He can do it one afternoon for me. My e-ring is kind of odd because it has a twist in it. The wedding band actually goes in the middle of the e-ring. I love it, but the wedding band would spin. It annoyed me to keep centering the diamonds again and again.
