help with philly area venues!

ill just start out by saying, i must be doing something wrong. or not? you tell me.
im dreaming of a wedding thats pretty much all outside. sure, id also like some sort of indoor space in case it rains or what not. i would also like it to be rustic. heres my problem: i cant find any! i have spent several hours looking at venues and ive only come up with three that have things i love. im not a picky person, pretty darn easy going. SO!!! have you girls seen anything while planning that youd like to share? id love to find new places to look at. thanks in advance.

Re: help with philly area venues!

  • A friend of mine recently got married at the Curis Arboretum in Wyncote. Everything was outdoor, they rented tents. I think there's a pretty small limit to the amount of people they allow though, so I guess it depends on what your guest list is currently at.

  • Tyler Arboretum has a barn you can rent and add tenting to accomodate 150 ppl, it looks really really cute!
  • Have you tried partyspace? It was a great venue search engine.

  • I would look into the Old Mill.  I just went to a wedding there on Saturday and it was awesome.  The building has a great rustic feel to it and it has indoor/outdoor reception space and the ceremony was outside.  Really a very pretty place.

thanks guys! some other things i left out, sorry! right now i have no idea on guest numbers, if i find an awesome place and the limit is 100, then ill make it work. im pretty easy going with most things. the one thing my fiance and i agree on is that we need to be able to bring our own beer. we have several friends who want to brew for us. im finding it hard to find a place that allows me to bring my own.

a friend told me about kings mills. has anyone ever been there before? thoughts?

  • I know Tyler Arboretum you bring in everything so you could definitely bring your own beer. My venue is Appleford Estate in Villanova and it's outside/inside but not rustic per say. You byob there also though.
  • Have you looked at Hunting Hill Mansion at Ridley Creek State Park?

I know they allow outside cateters which will allow you to bring your own alcohol. I also heard the state department is difficult to work with.

  • I dont believe Kings Mill allows outside alcohol to be brought in.. I could be totally wrong.  I do know that the Old Mill does allow this.

Kings Mill doesn't even let you bring in your own sound equipment, can't imagine they'd let you bring in your own beer! I know a lot of brides who've had problems with them, others who loved them, it's a tough call whether to recommend them. They wouldn't work for us but may be perfect for someone else. Ridley is gorgeous but getting expensive (or at least to me). Not sure about Bartram Gardens, but I've seen some great photos from weddings there.  Just wanted to add if I could have Old Mill would have been my choice, or Ridley bec. I love the look, but alas, no unlimited budget!
  • I hear you about it being a requirement to bring your own beer. Fi and I have been brewing together our whole time together, so it was important to us. We've been mostly coming up empty for combination of both outdoors and allow outside liquor. Some places that were on the list that may have allowed it (and budget friendly)

    Paradise Farms
    Oakbourne Mansion

    Good luck!
