sunburn remedies

So I sat out on the lake with no sunscreen.
I'm burn to the point that I know blisters are thinking about forming.

I've been putting cold aloe gel on it, and last night I laid with cold compresses on my chest for pretty much the entire evening.

Anyone else have any tried and true sunburn healing tricks?
I know I'll be covered up for the rest of the weekend!

If the aloe doesn't have benzocaine in it, try to find some that does. It's a topical pain reliever that helps a lot. Also I find that taking an ibuprofen helps with the pain also.

Take a bath in tea- draw a hot bath, add a bunch of tea bags and then get in once it's cooled down. Really does help!

I'm actually not in as much pain as I look like I should be, you know?
BUT, I don't want blisters....so I'm trying to find something to prevent that from happening. I don't think I'll be able to though.

California Tan Total Insurance Burn Relief Gel.... it is the shiit.

I only found it on eBay (weird)... but I know Midnite Sun & Cruise carries it... not sure if you have that chain in your area?

been there, done that.

- take some aspirin - helps with pain and inflammation.

- cool baking soda bath or oatmeal bath

- drink lots of fluid to rehydrate skin

My only suggestion that's not mentioned by PPs is to drink lots of water. It's crucial in the healing/pain-killing process. I'm sorry and I hope you feel better!

I was told yogurt would help with sunburn, because it will act as a moisturizer. I never actually tried it though.

I was reading what Webmd suggested and this came up:

"Apply soothing lotions that contain aloe vera to sunburned areas. Topical steroids may also help with sunburn pain and swelling. Note: Do not use the cream on children younger than age 2 unless your doctor tells you to. Do not use in the rectal or vaginal area in children younger than age 12 unless your doctor tells you to."

I would hope 11 year olds do not have sunburns in either of those regions.

Drink a ton of water, moisturize a bunch (like several times a day). I've heard (but have no credibility to back it up) that actually applying a hot compress to it is beneficial, which doesn't make any sense to me but maybe there is something to it. I'd do some research into it before doing it to yourself because it could end up doing more harm than good.

I have actually heard that taking a hot shower helps, too. I also have no facts to back that up.

I get sunpoisoning any time I get a sunburn.Besides aloe vera we keep in the fridge. I also take Aveno baths, the oatmeal is soothing.

Sun burn is my nemesis. I HATE it more than I hate having the flu!

If I were MrsE, I'd totally tell you about a perfect cure-all that costs a bajilion dollars and can ONLY be found from this one store in Manhattan. But since I'm not, I really like "Lat it on Thick" body cream from Bath and Body Works. Aloe dries the shiit out of me for some reason, and this is like putting butta on your skin.

Vinegar helps take the sting out, and reduces puffiness. It's kind of gross, and you sort of smell like french fries, but it really does work.

Moisturize. Avoid exercise and too hot water as that could cause sweat to create blisters because the liquid can't escape. If you do blister, LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!

I have only ever used aloe gel, solarcaine, and moisturizer on my sunburns.

Ditto to the pp who mentioned yogurt ( I would use a plain one) and vinegar. Of course, you're going to smell gross, but when I was living in Spain, my host mom suggested it and I couldn't believe how much it helped.

Aloe vera after the shower, too.

This is my go to remedy. I am fair and burn easily. It works wonders. But also make sure you drink the fluids and also moisturize,
