(@) I think I got in trouble at daycare today

LB goes to a small in home DC and is only one of 4 kids.  Today was a birthday of one of the kids and the first one since LB has been there.  So I picked the girl up a small present.  When I came in today, the owner said she usually tells the parents not to buy anything.

Now I feel like an ass.

    You shouldn't feel like an ass. I think she just wanted you to know that you don't have to feel obligated to bring a present so that next time you don't have to worry about it.

    I think there is something wrong with me. I'm starting to miss day care.

    Ditto.  You were just doing something nice and I"m sure the sitter didn't want you or other parents feel obligated to buy presents for all the kids every time there's a birthday.

    I think that was really sweet of you!  I don't think I would've thought to do something like that.  Good for you.  Even if they didn't appreciate it.  You can just give it to LB!  She'll never know it was re-gifted.
