Travel Insurance Question

We're going to Jamaica in October and were told that if we were going to take the risk  of hurricanes, we should make sure to get trip insurance. Looking through options, however, it looks like if we were to cancel a few days ahead of time due to weather forecast of hurricanes, it wouldn't be covered under most plans. Do we have to get a "cancel for any reason" option in order for this to be covered? Any recommendations for companies to use?

Re: Travel Insurance Question

  • Most insurance companies don't offer compensation if you're cancelling due to an "act of God" (a.k.a natural disaster or weather related).  I'd talk to a travel agent to get the best advice.

Also, if you carry medical insurance you will want to check with your insurance company about whether any activities you would be doing in Jamaica would render your policy void and whether you would need additional coverage for medical insurance outside the US.  I cannot stress this part enough.  Making sure you have medical insurance and that it is valid for the activities you're doing/region you are in is EXTREMELY important.

  • Check out Travel Guard:  www.travelguard.com .  They have cancel for any reason options - it will be more expensive but might be worth it given the timing of your trip.
My husband was truly a gift - I am so blessed!
  • Check out www.insuremytrip.com & read the fine print.
  • We booked our insurance through insuremytrip.com and compared lots of companies. We ended up picking one with great recommendations.
