Hmmm... Coctail hour included into the reception...

I see that everyone has a separate cocktail hour and then 4 hours of reception. For some reason, our venue doesn't have that and the hour is included into the 4 hours. The coordinator told me that the cocktail hour doesn't literally take an hour but about 30-40 minutes. Still, it leaves us with less time for fun. Does anyone have the same timing? I'm a little concerned...

I think they typically include the cocktail hour within the 4 hour reception (1 hour cocktail hour, 3 hours of actual reception). We upgraded to a 5 hour reception, which is 1 hour for the cocktail hour and 4 for dinner and dancing.

I'm sure you'll be FINE! We've definitely been to weddings with a cocktail hour and then 3 hours of dinner and dancing and it was enough time for everything. If you're worried, though, you may want to ask the venue about the price for an extra hour.

Nothing wrong with it, just different venues have different timing. Some do the 1 hour cocktail, 3 hr reception and some do 1 hr cocktail, 4 hour reception. Many will let you to do a 4 hr reception at an extra charge. I particularly wanted mine longer so made sure the places I looked at allowed it. If you want yours longer, just go ahead and ask how much it would be.

Nice, thank you for calming me down :) I'm glad it's common. It just sounds like so little time! So much preparations and then it's all over in little 4 hours!

It is common for the venue to say a 4 hour reception, which is really 1 hour for cocktail and 3 hours for dinner/dancing.  I wanted longer, so we increased it to a 5 hour recepttion. Most venues say ceremony and reception only.  Depending on how long you want for pictures is how long you should ask to have your cocktail hour.  It buys you the time.  If 30-40 minutes is enough, then that is all your cocktail hour can be.  I have been to weddings where the cocktail hour was before the ceremony, kinda weird, but it happens.

A lot of venues do that.  They usually give you the option of paying for one extra hour so you can get your one hour cocktail and then 4 hours reception.  This is what I did, I was also able to get them to shorten my cocktail to only 30 minutes.  Speak to your venue and see what options they can give you.
