omg I am a dress bridezilla!

So, I went shopping a month ago for a dress with a 3,000 budget.  However I had my first stop at David's Bridal (yes I know some of you think Im crazy).  I tried on 6 dresses and found exactly what I had in mind for a deal of only 600.  I left super happy to have saved 2400! More to spend elsewhere!  My dress came in super fast.  I went in Thursday to pick it up and try it on.  Its amazning and I love it more in my size and ivory.  On my way out I saw an AMAZING Dress that I didn't see on my first trip.  Now, I am torn.  I made the HUGE mistake of trying it on (yes they had it in my size).  It is 950.  It is TOTALLY different than my "first" dress.  So I cannot compare the two.  I picked the first with FI in mind.  This would be MY PIck for me!  My Maid of Honor says, buy it wear it to the wedding and change to the other for the reception.  I would still be WAY under my budget but, Is that too excessive?  I am a 2nd time bride and I can afford it so what do you all think? I feel guilty for wanting to be excesive.  I am one of those say yes to the dress crazy girls now!  I still have 6 months so should I wait till it gets closer and see how I feel?  Just wanting to know what my fellow knotties would do?

thanks!

Haha!   I know exactly how you feel!

I actually have 3 dresses at the moment (long story)...  so don't feel too bad about wanting 2.  LOL!

I'm doing a dress change for the reception, and it's for the exact same reason you said.  I bought the ceremony dress knowing that my FI would LOVE it,  and I bought the reception dress because of how it made ME feel, and how much I loved it.  The third is the long story part...  that one was bought first actually, for our original plan of a destination wedding, and just really doesn't fit into our venue at all now.  I'm actually trying to sell it to at least recoup something, but you know how that goes.

Anyway, even with all 3 dresses, I was under my budget by quite a ways.  I say if you can afford it without any undue stress, and you want to do a dress change, do one!   I felt horrible about it for a long time...  and then I finally just gave myself permission to be happy about doing it because I wanted to do it, FI was happy with it and how great of a deal I got on the ones I bought (seriously, he couldn't believe I did even one dress that cheaply, much less 3!), and it's OUR wedding day.  Who cares what anyone else thinks!   What other day of your life can you give yourself permission to be a bit excessive?

    Syndelin,

Thank you so much for your post.  I showed my FI's Mom my dress yesterday and she said "its very pretty".  Then I showed her the "new potential dress" and she was like WOW its so Beautiful! I feel like the first dress is for my FI and the new desired dress is for me.  Both are very different.  Oh, and I am a three dress girl too.  I too bought a "destination dress" ala Ebay when we were going to just goto hawaii and get married on the beach.  I didn't sell it however my BFF is doing a destination wedding on a VERYtight budget so I gave it to her.  She was thrilled and I felt I did a good thing for someone I love dearly.  Honestly if fit her perfect and I couldn't see me wearing it.  Good luck on selling yours and thank you for some honest advise.

    Tammy ;)

Sounds like you have the right dresses then!  =)   My two are completely different styles as well.

That's awesome that you were able to help a friend along the way too!  I wish I knew someone that needed my 3rd one.  I will probably end up donating it to the brides against cancer place if we don't sell it by the wedding or something.

you know what?  I used to think it was so rude to hear a bride saying "it's my day"...but after all the stress, planning, money, dealing with issues, there is a point when you say "you know what?  It is MY Day!!!".
    Do what makes you happy!

    Thanks Ladies,
I think it was a concern as I would never want to come across to any of my family or friends as a bridezilla.  I usually know what I want and am not so indecisive on things.  I am also not too excessive and this seemed like an over due but, it does make me happy so, I am doing it.  Thanks for the words of encouragement I think my family and friends will feel the same way!

I think it's actually a really cool idea to have a dress change for the reception.  Not only do you get to wear two awesome dresses that are totally different- but it gives your guests something new to oogle at.  Friends and family always love to see what the wedding dress is going to look like- this way they get to see two!  Double the fun!

I don't think it's excessive either.  There are many cultures where the bride changes her attire upwards of 3 times.  It sounds like you are really excited about this second dress and if it's within your means to purchase it- I say go for it!

I say if you can afford both, then get both!  A lot of people these days change into a different dress for the reception.

    What does your FI say?

    Chiwawa,
I have a wonderful and generous FI he says get as many as I want!  Soooooo maybe three changes! LOL jk.  I am going to wait and look around after Christmas and see if the "wow" dress is still what I want.
