Re: Living together (POLL)

  • So I should probably answer my own question. Mine is other :)

I currently go to school about two hours away from FI. I "live" with him Thursday night through Sunday night then drive back every week. We will officially move in together May 8th (YAY!!!!) and we move into a house May 31st. :D

  • We were living together for a year and a half before we got engaged. I love the idea of waiting until you're married to move in together, but it just wasn't practical for us. We wanted to be with each other every second we could.

We have been living with each other for 2 and a half years. It made sense financially and before, we were living 20 miles apart so this was much better. We also wanted to know the other person's habits etc. to make sure that we enjoyed it before moving forward.
  • We have been living together for almost 2 years since I graduated college.  I also lived with him during breaks while in college after my sophmore year.  It mad more sense financially that we lived together than separately.

We have been living together for almost 3 years.  We wanted to move out of our parents' houses and it made sense to move in together at that point in our relationship since we had already been together for a year.  I think it's very good practice for marriage... I would be way more nervous about getting married if we hadn't lived together!

  • we are the odd balls out in this thread!  after we were both finished with school, Fiance and I had to do the long distance thing since he went to another town to do his residency, and weren't living in the same city until thie end of August. He went out and bought my ring two weeks after he moved back here:)  I had already signed a lease since I didnt know when/if he would be moving back right away so fiance had to get his own apartment.  My lease is up at the end of the month and we are hoping we will have a house soon after that to move into, yay!
  • Lets see, We sort of lived together back in sophmore year of college. His roommate left so we pushed the beds together and I moved most of my stuff to his room. Then Junior year we shared an on-campus apartment but not a room. Then we were long distance senior year. Christmas time of senior year his living situation got really bad (his brothers were stealing from him and his step-dad kept turing off the internet while he was working on school stuff). So my parents let him mov in with them. I was still away at school though. Then I came home but they wouldn't let us share a room. Finally about six months before he proposed they let him move upstairs and share a room with me. Right now we live together, but with my parents. We are hoping that I will find a teaching job soon so that we can get a place of our own.

  • We decided not to live together before the wedding. FI lives in a townhouse about 10 minutes from me that he had before we got engaged, so it hasn't really been an issue. We see each other all the time. However, his lease is up about 6 weeks before our wedding so he'll be moving into my condo. We're trying to decide if I'll stay or if I'll move in with my folks for a few weeks. We're torn because it would be so much more convenient to just stay together in the condo, but we really wanted to let the "living together" part of getting married feel really special. We'll see!

  • We moved in together last month. We had been engaged for like 7 months at that point. We were going to wait until we were married but it didn't make sense with our leases and since we were already engaged, it wasn't a big deal to our parents (who are very conservative).

  • I chose other

FI and I moved in together after dating for 10 months. Both of our leases ran out and we were spending every night together anyways so we decided we wanted to live together. We lived together for a year (during which FI proposed to me).

Last summer FI and I were both offered amazing jobs which would really jumpstart our careers - but in differen towns about 12 hours apart. So now we are in a long distance relationship and living apart. I'll be resigning and moveing to his town right after the wedding. The wedding is really close to where I live now, so after the honeymoon FI will help me pack my things up and we'll drive to his town.

While it's been hard being long distance, part of me feels like we get the best of both worlds this way. We have lived together and know each other's habits (including the annoying ones) but now also get the anticipation and excitement of moving in together after the wedding.

I have to chose other too.  My FI goes to school about 90 miles from where I live.  Monday - Thursday he lives in the town where he goes to college and Friday - Sunday he stays with me.  So we live together for 3 days a week right now.  Also during the summers he lives with me.  Right now we are in the process of looking for a an apartment to move into at the end of his semester.  In the fall after the wedding he is going to try commuting if it works we will start looking for a house.

  • Dang- Im the odd one out.

We dont live together at all, except on the occasional weekend he will come to see me at school. I dont really count that though because i have 2 other roommates; and he has 2 roommates at his place when we stay there, which is not even once a month.
FI will move into our yet unknown house in late may or june, and i wont move in til the wedding..

  • We have been living together for a year now. We lived and worked about an hour a way from each other when we met and the commute to see each other became too much. We wouldn't have it any other way. :) This arrangement has been perfect for us.
  • The girls and I moved into Fi's place in January since my lease was about to be up anyway.  We had lived together before when I older daughter was born for 3 years and then we were seperated and lived apart obviously.  We waited for a quite a while before moving in together again though.

  • We were long distance for 5 years, then he moved here, I moved back in with my parents after college, but stayed at FI's apartment occasionally.  He got really sick last year and I was scared something would happen to him overnight, so I kind of "sneak moved-in" aka...gradually moved my stuff over there until one day, all of my stuff was over there. :)  We just moved into an apartment a month ago where both of our names are on the lease though.
